If there’s a world wide epidemic for 5-6 months there is no chance the contract between them will be broken, unless you somehow know the small print?!

Anything below 12 weeks and I’m sure they’ll finish the season fine. 16+ weeks and I highly doubt it, imaginary contract clauses or not.

Good news for our pitch at least. Maybe rip it up and plant a new one before the season resumes ;)

Not actually a bad idea tbf, even if only said in jest. Only trouble would be financial.

Or how about next season starts almost immediately after this one finishes. 2-3 week break.
Never understood why there has to be such a long break.
Players won’t have any excuses about being unfit then.

You're supposed to be a man of commerce Fordy! Any commercial contract worth its salt makes a provision for 'force majeure'. Certainly multi million pound contracts that underpin a global phenomenon like the premier league will. You need to face up to the idea that your beloved liverpool might not actually be winning a league title...

Dont player contracts typically expire in June?

I honestly think everything for this season will be voided

Imagine thinking some Indian TV company will be able to force the premier league, La liga etc who will have their respective governments behind them into playing all their games this season say 5/6 months down the line. Bizarre.

There is not a chance of that who is going to deprive Liverpool the title or teams chasing the premiership their millions. There will be a conclusion or it will finish on current standings but even then their will be claims from teams just a point or two behind

They do. However these are extraordinary times. If the season is to be extended into July, what is the potential for contracts to be extended to cover that timescale. Especially do players want to be out of contract for several weeks.

Footballers are not going to be immune from the residue that hits society at large.

Honestly don't think this season will finish, they may either take the standings as they are or appoint the remaining games as draws and take those standings. This thing is going to last more than a month by the sound of things.

Imagine if we actually played how we should've this season and had been in the automatics, only for the season to be made null

Possibly, but who pays? Many lower league clubs live hand to mouth. Can they afford to extend contracts by a couple of months, particularly given the double whammy of having no gate receipts for a couple of months either? And from what I hear, severe restrictions across society are likely to be in place for at least 3-4 months. I dont think this season will finish.

We'll see. There are much bigger considerations than whether to 'deprive liverpool of a title'. And whatever is decided, they're going to have to apply a consistent approach. The more I think about it, the more I think all seasons across europe will be voided.

It is hard to predict which way things will progress. I would have thought that one option would be for the clubs to offer to pay staff a percentage of their wages. Staff would then have a reduced income, but a job and the potential to preserve it in the longer term. If a significant amount of clubs are in a similar position, then staff will not be able to say, if you don’t pay me I will go to an alternative club. Perhaps the PFA, could help footballers, if they are in financial difficulty. A number of initiatives such as freezing loans or paying far less interest, are likely to be employed as a strategy to reduce financial pressure on individuals and organisations.
    Strange, difficult and unprecedented times.

I think the season should be voided, there are a number of benefits to this solution:

Liverpool won't win the Premier League title, that would be funny. Leeds won't get promoted, that would be even funnier. Swindon won't get promoted, this would also be funny.

Most of our supporters are season ticket or flexi card holders, so I would assume that the lost revenue wouldn't hit us as hard as it will hit some of our rivals. We now know which players/teams in this league are good, those same players will still be in league two next season unless someone from a higher league comes in for them. I think that makes our transfer window easier.
