With Doyle likely off back to Swindon and Rotherham fans saying Yates could return there before the end of the month, it looks like they are out of the running for Grigg. Salford may well still be in the running if they can scratch around to cover it.

You do wonder though if City could potentially be offered him by Parkinson if he's willing to help out his old club.

They won't loan to a L1 rival and there aren't many L2 clubs who could afford his wages. However, if we were able to clear Doyle and Vaughan off the wage budget (or at least the bulk of their wages by loaning them out) Grigg would be financially do able if the figure of £5k per week contribution mentioned in the Sunderland echo is accurate.

It all boils down to whether the club want to reinvest the money? But it is clear Doyle wants to be elsewhere, maybe Bowyer's thought 'sod it' lets give Grigg a go until the end of the season. Bowyer obviously isn't going to have the negative mindset of the fans that he cannot get our strikers scoring. He will believe he can find a system to get goals, however unrealistic that may be!

 

We're a strikers graveyard. Save the money and spend it on a propa midfielder.

We wanted to try rid ourselves of Palmer and other midfielders we don't use and maybe Mellor before we got someone decent in who could turn this team around.

All we did was sell the leagues top scorer as well as loaning out our own top scorer

 

Its depressing. I cannot believe Bowyer is in for more midfielders. He absolutely baffles me.

We need to get rid of about 4/5 in this squad. And not the two we have!!!

 

What is Griggs wage though? He signed a contract as a £4m player just 12 months ago!

He would certainly soften the blow but Shrewsbury are in for him and no doubt other league 1 clubs will be.

 

Where has this rumour even come from? Can’t see him dropping down to league 2, can’t see us being able to afford his wages.

U would think so but hes been playing quite a bit for tranmere this season so if we got him he cant be worse than what we have but think it would be someone who isnt playing alot for them

Sunderland have said they won’t loan to a League One rival though......still take the point about high wages but he’s fourth choice there, even behind McNulty. Their paper thinks Salford tabled a 5k pw contribution, so maybe a little more than that gets him?
