Is Gary Bowyer the dullest manager we've had?

Like I said it isn't fair, why do Crewe get all the easy games?

 

Crewe play this dodgy 'attack them and score a few' nonsense.

We know it's best to defend for our lives and hope for a penalty or a scrappy goal courtesy, often, of a mistake.

 

I would say Bowyer is the most stubborn manager we have ever had. He knows we should and have to players to play 442 but sticks to his guns in trying to mould square pegs into round holes.

I would say we are where we are this season despite Bowyer's negative non footballing tactics, and we are where we are basically because our players are better players than 95% of players we come against, as they will be as we have a high playing budget for league two.

 

Think that’s a bit disrespectful really. His style of football leaves a lot to be desired especially as a fan but he’s getting results and we are almost in the auto places.
To say it’s because we have “better players” only is rubbish. We had a big budget last season allegedly and were the worst team in that league by a country mile. It means nothing. We are very well drilled and very good defensively. It’s dull but that takes good coaching. If you can defend you always have a chance. It’s not pretty but we are getting results

 

You've clearly forgotten how bad Doherty was. The winner yesterday, was a move of quality any team would be proud of, we had nothjng like that under him

Bowyer is, at heart a bit of a footie purist, as he was brought up on footie that his Dad played under Cloghie. Fortunately enough, he's pragmatic enough to realise that a L2 team recovering from illness and injury needs to have a solid back line as this division is all about results

I mean how can you seriously have any credibility, when you think that a manager who's given us our highest L2 points haul in nearly 30 years, is worse than our worst ever manager and worse than Taylor and Jackson?

How we are set up to play with our more expensive squad is absolutely painful to watch at times due to the manager. Granted we have had injuries but dont all teams. We are grinding out results when we dont have to. Everybody who watches us can see how we should be playing and that is playing to our strength and not worrying about other teams strengths.

 

What happened last season then? I mean if it's just about players, why did last season's squad, that was on a par with Donaster's, lose so many?

If Crewe are that good, shouldn't they be 20 points better off than us?

Or is it the case that they've had far more terrible matches than us and hence why they're only just above us

In L1 or L2 I'll take a defensive winning style against an attacking one, any day of the week as we've seen that the former brings promotion far more times than the latter, unless finances are huge

 

Last season the recruitment was shocking which is why we are in the current mess which is league two.

I dont totally dislike Bowyer, he has stopped the rot, as you say made us solid and brought in some really good players for this level. Just wish he would let them play and stop stifling them with his negative tactics.

Anyway my point isn't that Crewe are better than us - I don't think they are - my point is, you don't need to be better than us to smash 4 or 5 past poor teams.

 

That said, Crewe are only 1 point ahead of us in the league

 

It makes me laugh when i see the same posters going 3 or 4 nil in the prediction comp every week. Because Morecambe are second bottom and concede away goals like a sieve the assumption to some was we were gonna pump them 4 or 5 nil. i said i'd expect a decent side to whack them but went 2-1 knowing full well we wouldn't score more than that. As it turns out we were lucky to get one. You gotta attack to score 3 or more.

 

This myth that free scoring Crewe are the team that are banging them in for fun is brilliant - they have a 5 goal better goal difference compared to us.

He could be the dullest yes but as long as his team isn't conceding, we're grinding out results and in the play off spots I couldn't give a hit.
