The Pitch

That's what I noticed in June from Main stand. Middle of June and clearly sparse growth areas. No way seeding at that time would work for the season.

 

Can anyone shed any further light as to the issue with the pitch? Was discussed at length on the commentary after the game today. They asked Bowyer his thoughts and he isn’t happy and said the players are mentioning it’s a challenge.

I can’t make home games so can only go by highlights and images. I’ve seen it a lot lot worse, what seems to be issue in the opinion of those of you who are at the games?

 

If you get close to it its devoid of grass, its hard for the players to trust the pitch when passing because it bobbles so much. Players have said this for seasons now though, its not an easy surface to play on, makes passing and running with the ball tricky.

 

Thanks. Images don’t quite make it look like this. So as others have questioned, is the investment we made working in terms of drainage and are we simply not seeing enough grass growth? Does anyone know if we ever use the heat lamps that help stunt growth? Appreciate these are expensive, but so could another battered pitch!

even today Morecambe seemed to be able to pass the ball very well especially the first 20 minutes, it's far from ideal but no excuses with regards the pitch today, it was all down to poor team selection and Gary Bowyer needs to take a look in the mirror.
The only thing we ask as Bradford City fans is to give your all in the 90 minutes and although I can't say players didn't give their all the formation they were asked to play did not get the best from those players.

 

Couldn’t believe the state of the pitch today, it would be great to hear what the club thinks after our “significant six figure investment” last year...

 

Guaranteed for about 10 years, shouldn't be a problem getting the company who did it to put it right then, over to you Paula.

 

Dos'nt seem to affect visiting teams or it just another excuse for inept performances we should see the real City in the upcoming away games on better pitches then.

 

Fair comment, but related to the pitch, if it’s a general agreement the pitch is unacceptable vs what was paid for and apparently ‘guaranteed’, then action needs to be taken to improve.

 

What happened to the groundsman before this one ?

 

That's the same crew that tarmacked my drive Billy Clarke recommended them, it's never been right since .

 

Sorry but it starts at the groundsman for me, far far too much sand down for the weather we have had. Grass (what there is if it) cut too short. Looks like they have been doing dirt biking on the pitch, that pitch shouldn't be that churned up with football. I know the drainage has been a problem but it's not like we have had monsoon weather.

 

First 20 mins today think nearly every pass either bobbled or bounced a different way than expected it's like a tractor has driven over it in places.

 

Looking at the Plymouth pitch on today's highlights it looks like a billiard table and they've had an awful lot of rain recently.

 

Interesting comment from Simon Parker as it seems the necessary maintenance money was not spent in the summer, which no doubt will mean any guarantee is null and void.

 

these are the pics I took in mid-Jun. Wouldn't expect to see bare spots like that so close to start of the season. Maybe this is a function of what Parker mentioned in the the post by @boltonroad just above this one.

 

Yes invested in squad instead of amount needed for pitch.

 

If we spent six figures which I doubt then we have been well and truly stitched up.
The pitch is a disgrace.
I'm no turf expert and it would appear neither are the contractor's who laid it.
Call the local sheriff,round up a posse and bring em back to put it right.
