Mellor - How poor?

Today I didn't!

He was poor today.

But it's the 'all season' thing I disagree with.

As for this particular game, Port Vale were ONLY useful in any attacking sense in the first half. The vast majority of their attacks came down the wing occupied by Wood and Oteh, NOT Mellor and Ismail.

That is because Amoo was their best player, but it's also noticeable that the two chances they did have in the second half came late from errors from Wood and Cooke.

Clearly today's defeat was NOT a result of Mellor's poor performance, despite the fact it was a poor performance.

It's all very skewed to single out a defender who didn't make the kind of catastrophic errors made by better performing players.

 

Eh? Mellor was absolutely dire for the last few months of the season and defensively he's started off this year in pretty much the same vain.

I'm sure you just make stuff up to sound like you're analysing other things that people don't see.

 

Henley is no great shakes but he’s a shoe in every week before Mellor, terrible player offers absolutely nothing, even his long throws are not very long. Cumbersome, slow ,looks disinterested, receives the ball and invariably just plays it back to AOC as he can’t see a forward pass.

I can only think he gets in because of his height and Vale had a few big lads, must be dropped for Saturday.

 

Mellor didn’t close the first goalscorer down allowing him to pick his spot then got out muscled by akinson for the winner

 

Didn’t close for the first OR for the warning shot by the same lad not long before.

 

Unfortunately we are very poor in the right back department. Mellor is probably the worst defensive player we have. We didn't keep a much better player in Caddis because he was deemed past his best. Compared with Mellor he's premier class. Mellor cannot even do the basics like defend, pass, distribute and cover. The only attribute he has is to be able to 'lob' the ball into the penalty area when we have a throw - sorry for the rant.

 

Needs Henley back on Saturday. Don't get Mellor at all. He's 6'2 but when he jumps, he's 5'10. Also with a backing off ability not seen round these parts since Matthew Bates.

Can't recall a good game out of him at VP in a long time.

 

So Henley in for Mellor and we're good to go.

 

We had a box full of defenders to make that clearance but lets single out Devine.

 

Mellor's mistakes also caused Oteh and Akpan to get yellow cards last night. He's not great in the air, lacks pace, not a great ball winner and makes really poor decisions too often. How he got in LG2 Team of the season a couple of years ago beats me.

Genuine question, but who deemed Caddis past it? Given he was our best defender, most consistent player and for me POTY. I’ve been told he didn’t want to play L2 but classic Gary style he even started Mellor in front of Caddis at the back end of last season didn’t he!

 

I know he was poor but harsh to pick him out of them all. They was all below par tonight & blame lies collectively

 

I completely agree that Caddis was consistent for us and would still be doing an excellent job for us. As to "the past it" that was an assumption on my part as I can find no other reason for not offering him a contract. As to him thinking that he was too good for L2 then this cannot be a view held by other people as he is still not attached to ANY league club.

 

to be fair none of our defenders saw a forward pass last night because there was hardly any movement or anyone showing for the ball. Agree Mellor was the worst of the bunch, but I think he was playing because Henley had a bit of a torrid time second half on Saturday

 

Have a look at these screen shots and tell me the goal was down to Devine ball watching he tried to challenge for the ball although BRE was favorite to win it.
