I think we need a period of stability. We’ve had far too many changes in the last 12-18 months to be successful. We’ve had significant changes throughout the club, numerous managers, changes to the ownership/chairmen, switching of backroom staff and half the squad released and replaced.

Unless we start to drift towards the relegation zone I’d give Bowyer the season. As long as we’re above 15th I think we should just stick it out with him and steady the ship. I think keeping Bowyer and finishing mid table would be less detrimental than another season of changing managers and more mid season squad restructuring.

Tactically hes a shambles. Hes petrified of every opponent. We were pre season favourites to win the league FFS!!

I think he should get the rest of the season most definitely, but if we ain't in the playoffs at the end of the season he walks, simple as that. To not hit the playoffs in league 2 is abject failure. Enough excuses now, time to start delivering because i really can't be arsed with another season of mediocrity.

I kind of wish Oldham did to us what any other decent team should have done, which is put 4 past us at half time. It'll stop everyone from thinking 4-4-2 is the saviour.

You can't play a midfield 2 with 2 lightweight midfielders and then compliment them with attacking wingers on each side. You'll get run past with ease.

I'd like to see him set up with a 4-1-3-2. Devine or AOC providing protection to the back 4 with Devitt, Cooke and Palmer given a license to attack. If that fails we'll have to go back to the risk averse diamond. Keep it tight and hope to nick it.

Sorry @alex@alex can't go along with that, the squad he has presently should be capable of a challenge for a play off place, we still have till Monday to bring more players in.
Back to the old debate (and not because Doyle is scoring for fun) many agreed you do not let a player leave without cover, maybe Bowyer has a loan/signing up his sleve but any long term injury to either Donaldson or more so Vaughan we have Patrick at the moment, poor decision making for me.

Devine and O'Connor are simply not good enough to play the role you're asking them to do. Devine is as average as they come and O'Connor is essentially a centre back clogger. I do agree that 4-4-2 leaves you open when the CMs are poor, i can see why Bowyer is reluctant to do it as we've already looked wide open through the middle on various occasions. Akpan gets more stick than others but thats because his position is integral to what we do. And he just doesn't do the position justice which leaves others vulnerable. And i ain't impressed with what i've seen of Palmer so far.

There is no saviour formation. Our biggest problem in terms of personnel is the lack of a midfielder who can tackle and get us on the front foot. We've got 2 days to sort it.

Then I'd go 442, keep it simple for a few games and see where it takes us. You can tweak it by playing a bit narrower if need be, but stick a bastard in midfield, play with some balance and watch the difference.

It is the weak area of our team but due to the balance in the squad you're not going to find a formation that suits everyone. You can change the system around to combat Devine/AOC but will just end up with a hole somewhere else. It's now about damage limitation and finding the best system to mask our flaws.

We've almost tried every formation in the book now and none of them have worked. I wonder where Bowyer goes from here? Since the start of the season our problems have been obvious. Bring in a DM, a quality winger and play a 4 man midfield. Since the Stevenage game Boyer has brought in a 2 attacking midfielders and a reserve winger to make up the numbers.

    Baffling.

7 midfielders on our books and not one of them can play the holding role. It's like having Rahic in charge of recruitment again.

He's worked out a back four that seems to work so far and this has helped the keeper. He's brought in two vastly experienced strikers that look a threat. But the midfield transfers and the ones he's given contracts to don't have any strategy in how they are going to protect the back four and supply chances to the front two. Now we have Anderson and Devine who aren't good enough, Akpan who should be good enough but looks as bad as the aforementioned two, Reeves who is always 'two weeks' away, Gibson and McCartan who have some potential but no one knows where they really fit in, Palmer from a division above but again not sure what his best position is, Ismail who hasn't played yet, and the three new lads who again no one really knows what their best attributes are. And now we've got full backs in midfield. We shouldn't be still talking about bringing more in yet because of the above we are. No wonder fans seem a bit disillusioned at the minute.

Just as an aside we went with The Corn Dolly crewe yesterday and Andy put the "Matter of Heart" video on for a little nostalgia, instead of his usual Laurel & Hardy video.
Whatching it back was painful at times to see how naive Rupp was with regards to the situation around him, the famous "club within a club" quote being a classic, people at the club skimming a few quid yet his partner doing irreparable damage to his/our club/asset.
The comment with regards his banker friend putting the two together, his banker mate quoting Rupp is the only one daft enough to back Rahic's venture, yup and with Rupp's money.
I do wish Andy had put Laurel & Hardy on, first the Heart of the Matter then that poor effort from our team, not the day out at Crewe that I envisaged.

The fact he couldn't get a tune out of Doyle emphasises Bowyer's short comings.

Can't disagree with that comment but was he trying to accomadate all 3 which would have been great ic hs found a formation that worked with all 3.
I believe most thought it would be Donaldson & Vaughan starting with Doyle from the bench or starting if one of them was unable to do 90 minutes.
We were all aware that getting rid of the big earners was going to help his player recruitment I think he took a massive risk getting rid of Doyle without back up, but there are is today and Monday to get someone in to compete with Patrick for the 3rd striking position ;).

What makes it worse is Josh Wright would walk into our midfield. That's how poor it is.

    IMPORTANT PRESS RELEASE

The club would like to announce that Manager Gary Bowyer has our complete support from the board and our backing for the remainder of the season.

We ask at this time that the fans allow time for Gary to regain a top 3 finish at the end of the season .
