PA system in the Kop area. As I understand it, Ryan Sparks suggested that the club had reviewed the system in the Kop area, after comments following the Liverpool game. Some remedial/repair work was identified and the club will endeavour to resolve the issue. I guess people need to keep commenting on it if it doesn’t improve.
In the Main Stand the volume was very loud, however it is the clarity of the sound and if the commentator talks very fast, then it is difficult to follow.
Apparently the emergency speaker system in the event of a serious Health and Safety issue is separate to the current one and if used can be heard a heck of a distance away.

Rod, thanks for your work on this and thanks to fellow Bantam Talk people for providing the many questions asked.

The P A system in the kop (upper tier) is atrocious. I don't know if several of the speakers aren't working (not worked for years) but you can't make out a thing really, wasn't until I saw T&A and realised cheque was for burns unit!!

Plus they played James 'Come Home' (I think, it was I could barely make out!) on Saturday and love that song. I sit in H block so don't know what the sound is like in other blocks...but from what other people have said it sounds like it is the same...I'm happy to sit in every block of the kop whilst they play music to test it....

I moved from the rear of the Kop, to the front and I have to say the difference in sound is very noticeable. Towards the rear, muffled sound, unable to make the discussions out whilst my new seating, no real problems whatsoever

I sit in K block and have done since the stand opened. I've never been able to make out any words, just a garbled sound. If people can hear clearly in the lower kop then it's a quedtion of acoustics or the angle of the speakers. I noticed last Saturday that they seem to be angled directly downwards.

For away matches, I would like to suggest establishing an area designated for families and those who prefer to sit. This would be achieved by segregation of the ticket allocation.
Such a facility will improve the experience for those who do not want to stand throughout the whole match and might want to avoid youngsters hearing the F word every five minutes.
How would it work? Quite simple. Start allocating family and sitting ticket requests from one end of the away stand and everyone else at the other end. All it takes is a bit of organisation with the away ticket office to understand the seating configuration and a flag on our membership system highlighting if you want a family seat.

My understanding is that it is City who sell the tickets rather than the ‘away’ ticket office.

The next thing is how many seats do you allocate to ‘families’? What percentage?

If it is blocks perhaps the outer one could be set aside for families? If you look at VP there are 6 blocks in the Kop but only 5 in the TL Dallas stand. The Osmond Stand at Grimsby has 3 blocks which appear uneven in size on the stadium plan.

    How do you segregate?

It is actually quite difficult as in my experience people ignore the seats allocated and often sit anywhere.

Unless there were separate entrances and segregation, perhaps with a further loss of seats, I struggle to see how it will work.

Quite frankly it is not ‘Simple’.

For the avoidance of doubt I have been to grounds where I have heard the ‘F Word’ far more frequently than every five minutes and it is not something I wish to have to endure!

Just to clarify. Yes it’s our ticket office that issue the away tickets but there would be no need to give a set allocation. It also doesn’t require separate entrances etc. The reason why so many don’t take their allocated seats is because those who want to stand etc want to be together in a pack. My proposal also addresses this behaviour because they’re all be in seats together anyway!

It’s not an issue where the stewards say “sit anywhere “. But that wasn’t the case at sell out Grimsby and at some other grounds.

By way of example, assume the away end has 26 rows (A to Z) of seats each numbered 1 to 100. Seat 1 is far left of the stand, seat 100 is far right.

Our ticket office designates the left side of the stand as the family section and starts selling A1 (+ adjacent seat if appropriate), B1; C1 etc. with everyone else being allocated A 100, B100, C 100 etc. Even with every seat sold, you would end up with the family section to the left and everyone else to the right. The allocation between the two would be the exact proportion sold.

Okay, it’s perhaps not that simple to work in practice but it’s worth exploring and as way of solving a growing problem.

The problem with allocating one set as ‘family and seated’ implies that the other section is ‘standing’ which the home club may not be happy at as it suggests they are complicit in breaking their own ground regulations and possibly their safety certificate if they have an all seater stadium

Point taken. Just call the segregation “Family Friendly”. It’s then obvious who sits where.

Although the idea in theory may have merits i'm not sure you could enforce such a system. I've not seen or been to a ground where it has been in place for away fans. The away end at Grimsby isn't much of a help in these situations and i'm not sure what you would base the ticket sales on? How would you categorise without being in breach of rules and regulations?

There’s always a first time for everything. If you can have a “Family Friendly” zone for home fans, why not for away fans? It’s just that we would organise our own through the ticket allocation. See my earlier thoughts on why you don’t need to forecast ticket sales for each group.

Have you seen the history of our ticket office? It ain't happening is it. It doesn't really bother me but maybe its worth having a word with the club regarding future away games. To be honest i'm not sure we are gonna see many scenes of boisterous fans this season, don't remember many the last time we were in league 2, Saturday more than likely a one off.

So if I want to sit down I have to accept getting stuck in the corner. No thanks.
