Bit of debate above on how many of the shots were genuine chances....that’s why so many people in football like expected goals data now.

Pay less attention to 30 yard pot shots that sailed into the stand and give more weight to the strong chances, like Donaldson infront of the Kop.

Anyway the stats for the Cambridge game had it 1.70 - 0.7 in our favour.

.......we did enough to win the game and were unlucky not to.

What about saying we only hit the target 3 times because of our formation?

I only remember Vaughan's over head kick, his pathetic attempt easily saved and Donaldson inches away from converting. That's a real chance every 30 minutes against one of the leagues poorer sides.

    What about goal kicks?

Thats pretty much how i saw it, i can't remember any other effort on goal. We had a greater possession but Cambridge were easily worth their point, we didn't do nearly enough to win the game.

In truth we were boring, When we should have drove forward we went sideways, When it should have gone sideways it went backwards, Going to be a lot of draws at this rate, Lets hope he does not earn the nickname

I was thinking 'perhaps they'll fare better away from home this season. When the home team will be expected to attack, leaving more space'. A lack of pace remains a concern though, it's a cliché but there's nothing that scares defenders like a bit of genuine speed going forward.

"One of the leagues poorer sides." Who says they are one of the poorer sides? Yes, maybe they were last season. But that was last season. History tells us that last season has no bearing on this season. We know that well enough. A manager that has only been there 6 or 7 months. A transfer window to bring in his own players. When they have played 25 or 30 games this season then decide whether they are one of the poorer sides.

Thought Vaughan attempt hit the bar? Doyle attempt went wide, Donaldson which has been mentioned, and Devine attempt on goal. I know it wasn’t enough but we did have more than one attempt on goal.

Wasn't "Boring Boyer" one of those *ahem* special videos you could get from under the counter of the corner shop or was that "Brenda does Bradford"?

I was. As far as i was concerned we created 3 decent chances at goal. Vaughans overhead, Vaughans weak attempt which was more of a back pass and Donaldsons stretch to Scannells cross. I don't think we played badly on Saturday but actual decent scoring scoring chances were very few.

Agree, but I thought Devine attempt was close, but I sit side on, so can’t always tell how close. I think we will have to be patient while he works out best system and players.

I think what happened on Saturday was pretty much predicted as to what most people thought would happen as soon as they saw the team sheet. The back four looked strong against somewhat limited opposition, the front two showed patches of what they are capable of given good service. The midfield look pretty weak. Hoping Bowyer will address this and never play Doyle in the '10' role again.

Another way of looking at it is that 4-3-3 is the only way he wants to play and he's going to play it even if he hasn't the personnel to do so. How else can we explain Doyle as a no. 10? If this is the case it'll be a long hard season.
