Mellor played as a holding midfielder at least once for Blackpool. He has also played as a right-midfielder on a number of occasions, in a role similar to when we played McMahon in front of Darby

No narrative change. You originally said you would like another defensive midfielder and I pointed out we already have a number of them. I agree 4 CMs isn’t enough; luckily for us, we have significantly more than 4.

I’m not sure @The Evidence agrees with your view that Devine is “solid enough” though. And I’m not sure many would have your confidence that we can count on him over a season and “won’t drop a clanger”.

Agree to a certain extent re injuries, but cant think of any who were in the squad that got us promoted out of this division last time who were quite as steady or non influential as he has shown so far. For me we need better. I hope hes kept for the paint pot trophy and another midfielder is signed before the end of the window.

 

What's happened to that Whale guy who was adamant there was no sell on?? He seemed to get a wierd kick from saying we were due nothing, very strange.

That's because I rate him as something like our 4th choice CM, for which he is fine in my view. We need a first team level shit house centre mid and a left winger, everything else is parsley. Devine will be able to do a job, if we start relying on him as a regular first teamer is where I would say he's nowhere near good enough.

 

As I said to Boing above mate, I just see him as filler for 20 starts at the absolute maximum. He's the backup's backup in my eyes which I think he'll be fine for at L2. He's still relatively young so has that on his side as well if he can actually kick on and improve a bit.

I'm more than happy to see Bowyer put his faith in Colville, Gibson or Devine in terms of a position though. Palmer looks a player, Bowyer obviously sees something in Anderson and I would love Reeves to resurrect himself. We have numbers but if we can't try and develop Devine, Gibson or Colville now we never can.

There is always January to strengthen.

I had the same question. Haven’t seen anything to confirm if he has?! I guess tomorrow will indicate either way as he won’t be able to be named in the squad if he’s not signed.........or just Bowyer doesn’t pick him!
