Shay McCartan

If Rahic managed to get money for Hanson and Poleon then McCartan must be worth some loose change from a chairmans pocket, but probably not as much as what Danny Rose spends on a night out.

 

He's now had promotions with the both the L2 clubs he was at. Clearly, by simple logic, he's a L2promotion chasing standard player

So why would we give him away, when he could be more than useful to us?

If Lincoln want him, then great, but get your money out

 

I think we should try and keep McCartan, 2/2 promotions from L2 and played well for both teams. Clearly good at that level. A bigger issue is whether he wants to play for us. Personally think he’ll go to Lincoln permanently. What’s everyone else’s thoughts?

 

have him back in for the start of pre-season, gary bowyer can then have a good look at him and see if he’ll fit in to the system that he wants to play. if he does then keep him, if he doesn’t look to recuperate some of the fee we paid for him.

however, whether mccartan will want to come back after how he’s been treated by some is another question.

you only need to look at the messages he has received on social media from ‘fans’. if i’d have been sent those types of messages i wouldn’t want to come back to play for the club. whether they were paying my wages or not, i’d want out as soon as possible. i’d also probably bite back like he may have on occasion, but that’s just me.

 

I don't think that will go down too well with Bowyer he's only interested in his football as are the vast majority of Bradford City fans.

 

When did McCartan get promoted from League Two before?

It wasn't at Accrington. They went up last year, when McCartan was doing bugger all for us.

They finished 13th (bottom half) the last time Shay played in L2.

 

Suggesting a fee of £100k is, as you so eloquently put it, “laughable”...!

He has started just 20 of their league games (less than half), regardless of how many times he came off the bench. You can spin it however you want, but a player that doesn’t start more than 50% of the games for his loanee club will not demand a fee this summer.

And if that opinion makes me “laughable”, so be it Ricky!!

 

Has he? When was his first promotion and who with? As I’ve said already, Lincoln have played 43 games in League2 this season and McCartan has started LESS than half of those games.

 

We all make mistakes, but multiple people claiming Accrington got promoted while Shay was there is a bit of obvious error.

Accrington are a brand new League One club, in size, stature, pretty much everything.

Not really sure how that mistake has been made.

 

Time will tell in the summer but should he leave I will say a fee will be recieved for him.
Lincoln have be using mainly 4 forwards this season and apart from Akinde I believe no other forward has played more game time than McCarten plus he was out injured for around 3 weeks and missed 5 games on total I think his stats for Lincoln aren't too shabby.

 

I believe it was a deliberate error made by those desperate for us to accept more mediocrity. If we are to get out of L2, we need better players than someone who has started less than half of available league games for his current L2 side.

And I don’t see that L2 side, that haven’t started him every week, now wanting to throw money away on signing him now they have gained promotion.

So, to try to justify why they disagree with that, some fans make up information about the player having 2x promotions on his CV.

 

What would you consider ‘shabby’ then? Going by your own stats, he’s featured 32 times, scoring just 6 times and providing 3 assist. He has started in just 47% of their games and played in just 46% of available minutes.

His main rival to partner John Akinde is Bruno Andrade, who they signed from Boreham Wood. He has featured 36 times, scoring 9 times with 6 assists. Here’s the main difference though; although only 4 appearances separate them, Andrade has started 79% of their games, and played in 74% of available minutes.

Seems McCartan still has a problem finishing games he started. And we want him back here to waste another £200k - £250k on him?

By keeping him on, we have to pay him wages. That’s how we would waste another £200-£250k on him. Allowing him to leave on a free would free up that money for a player that will actually earn his wage.

 

Doesn't quite work like that though does it. If we allow him to leave we may still need to pay up some of his outstanding contract, if we sell him we will still have to pay him a percentage of the fee. Footballers and agents are mercenaries and unless he is paid more money at his new club he won't walk away for nothing.

 

Not what I said though. I said, if HE wants to leave and agrees to cancel his contract, then we should allow him to leave on a free. The choice is his. Come back to a club he’s clearly not happy with, or goes elsewhere, for free, so long as he agrees to cancel his contract.

 

No those stats aren't shabby at all you only have to look at George Miller at city played hardly any games yet Barnsley have paid Boro a £250k fee. If we recoup half of the £200k outlay I will be happy but to say we should just release him is crazy afterall we even got a fee for Poleon regardless of how small that was.
