Normally I would agree. However, looking at the list of out of contract players, none of them are anywhere near the quality of Wyke

Our problem is we dont have any good experienced players left to help our younger players develop. If we rely on Mcmahon and Vincelot then all the young players will learn is to stick their tongues out and go missing when it gets tough.
If we sign Guy,(cant see it) who would mentor him? Imagine if Gary jones was still here I could see Guy flourishing.

If our policy is youth then we must have the proper professionals in the club and a budget which covers this.

Parkinson signed players based on personality and character; sometimes to the detriment of our overall quality.

But character more than made up for any deficiencies - this time, we seem to have signed some right flakes and weak characters, as well as marginally unfit players.

Still a lot of negativity on here... god sake take the guy at his word. He's said sorry for this season, he says lessons have been learnt & they move forward together. Yes there was no meat on the bones of how/why/where/when/Bratwurst but then again why would there be its an end of season bash!

He's saying the things that should have been said sooner but now lets damn well get behind the club & look forward and try and have a positive closed season!

Agree with Haworth on this..no use dwelling on failure, we have to move on, lessons learned. It will be critical to our progress that there is a balance of budget and skill in landing the players of quality needed to do a job imo.

Problem is, we've heard a fair bit of bull come from both Edin and Stefan, so fans are reluctant to believe anything they say. Like I've said before, lets see what they DO this summer and then we can see if they've learnt lessons.

Well in today’s T&A he reaffirmed what they said at the start so now it’s clear sustainability and young player development

Sounds like they're here for the long haul which is positive to hear as it means that they're serious about their investment. I think Rupp is trying to draw a line under the sorry affair of this season with those words which I'm prepared to let him do. But they need to deliver the goods this summer to win fans back. If Grayson leaves the club in a few days time then it will obliterate the good intentions behind Rupp's statement.

There is a difference between what has been their strategy from the start. And aims and ambitions. Nobody can guarantee anything. The last owners kept setting targets in good faith without achieving.

Not much detail about what mistakes but fair play, some lessons learned and we move on.
It appears that our previous target is now more realistic and within a debt free budget so logically speaking it will be a mid table budget after our 6th to 8th budget this season. I hope they have gleaned as much of Grayson’s experience as they can before he goes. His impact may not have been great but he knows how to assemble a balanced Championship promotion contending squad albeit not with the kind of quality it looks like we’ll be bringing in. It’s always the hope that kills you so a bit of honesty and realism from the owners is always welcome.

The way I see it, will be that players out of contract will leave (freeing up wages), players that we get bids for will be sold (adding to the transfer budget) and players that are doing alright in the academy will be offered contracts, with view to selling on (adding to the tranfer budget further).

If Grayson stays, he (and Snodin) will also eat into the the wage bill. If not, then A.N Other manager might cost money to take him away from his current club wherever that maybe, or we'll get someone out of work (eg Rosler).

I think Rupp has looked at all of the above, plus the pitch, and decided that there's no point in paying money for players who don't perform (lessons learnt) and will gamble only on wages rather than fees.

I'm hoping he'll be freeing up some money from the wage budget, to sign some quality youth coaches. No point in having a plan, but not the tools to back it up.

So basically it's a shift around in terms of budget. That's what these money guys do. Death by spreadsheet and all that.

Lessons learnt I hope are that leaving signings too late, means we end up with nothing. If we're going for out of contract players to avoid any expenditure on that front, then I really hope we get them early, rather than scrabbling around in the shit pool because we missed the boat on our targets.

Any news concerning Greg? Not being harsh, but if he's going to recuperating (and I really hope he is) for the next couple of months, then we really need to get a replacement asap.

Yeah fair enough, but I think what you posted above is where the problem lies. Their aims and ambitions cannot be achieved by their strategy.
We were told promotion within 3 years, that takes money.
We were told they have money, they do.
Some of us made the assumption that they would spend some of it, they won't. Confusion, frustration and anger the order of the day.
