This is an area of conversation around fan trouble that always gets ignored. I've been in a number of situations where I've heard some pretty disgusting stuff or seen behaviour that goes way beyond what is acceptable at a football match. I was with some family last year in the home end at Gigg Lane where there were at least 15 fans singing 'town full of p****' at the home end. I've seen a beered up moron with his 6 year old son intimidating an old man who asked him to sit down after a torrent of foul mouthed abuse. I've heared numerous racist insults. I heard chants at a Blackpool v Swansea game about the miners that had died from Swansea that previous weekend.

In all incidents I've never seen anyone call these people out. People stand around grinning sheepishly, I'm ashamed to say myself included. What needs to happen in football is for fans to act en masse and humiliate people who can not behave like decent human beings. I would save it for exceptional circumstances. A fan yelling at the home end that they are a bunch of w*nkers or a fan screaming at the ref I can deal with but when it comes to mocking tragedy, racism and intimidation of someone vulnerable the line must be drawn.

 

Think that's only for international bans?

 

No, it's for both, obviously not handing in your passports. You can be banned from town centres, public transport etc.

 

O yes I get that you can be banned from a place or whatever... but wouldn't assume that it would ever be enforced that you have to show at your local police station at 3pm every Saturday.

 

I personally know 2 lads who have to.

 

Glad this exists but what I'd really like is for some lowlife to quickly discover that he is an outcast after an army of 100 strong city fans turn on him and call him out on his behavior!

I remember away at Shrews two seasons ago there was some bloke in his 40s with a young lad probably six or seven. He was screaming the 'c' word over and over at the home stand and shouting vile abuse about what he wanted to do to their mothers / sisters / daughters. An old man turned round and looked at him and for the next 10 minutes he was prodding this bloke who clearly didn't want any trouble. Only a few people said anything to him. It's the only time I've got involved but I didn't get any 'back up'. The guy wanted to offer me out at the end but I talked him down. Be great if anyone else remembers this episode. What I really wanted was for a good 30 or 40 to turn on him. Not physically but just berate him and / or get stewards to get him out of there.

 

I agree. I’m too soft and chicken to confront but my morals are hard!! which unfortunately means I spend the whole game tutting not enjoying myself. I’m sure it’s nots just me. Therefore think of all those people whose enjoyment is spoilt. However as you say if I knew there was potentially back up then maybe different. Maybe. vast majority attend games and don’t want trouble which means bully boys get away with it and maybe thinks it’s acceptable because of it

 

I sometimes wish I was 6'4 and built like a brick outhouse. I know where you're coming from. The problem is people like this don't mind the conflict and repurcussions. There needs to be a vigilante mentality to anti social behavior based on non violent rejection of these people. People always say 'it's only a minority'. What are the 'majority' doing about it.

I've seen the original video on social media with the caption something along the lines of 'We've took over Sunderland'.

They were in a Bar & Grill restaurant in Washington, outside of Sunderland. Families were having their dinner. The whole restaurant had to be evacuated. Unbelievable.

I'm surprised the culprits haven't been given banning orders. Every time a Sunderland fan sets one off in a stadium, I seem to hear about them being caught by security cameras and receiving a ban.

You would hope the Bar & Grill restaurant in Washington would have CCTV Camera's and give our club a call explaining the situation.
Unfortunatly these kids think its all part of a great away day.
