Went for lunch at the Roebuck/Spite, just outside Otley. Pleasant refurb about 3 years ago. Food was reasonable nothing stand out and the beer range passable. It is in a nice location with good views over Wharfedale. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

I don't have any recommendations for Madrid, but have a couple for Seville in fairly central areas. Torres y Garcia - very lively, popular with groups. El Pasaje was excellent - it has a bar further up the road that is very busy , but we ate in the restaurant a few doors down and it was really good. Worth booking in advance for both.

At some point the new bar at the top of Ivegate (Bar 39?) is going to start serving food, perhaps aimed at the mid/higher end - at least so I've been told. They are well aware of the limited choice of decent food in the centre.
On another note it seems that the old crown is reopening and another shop further up is being done out. Hairdressers I think. Positive for Ivegate.

Hmmm, 2 people in last week at 1pm, it could serve the best food in Bradford, and if it does it'll have to charge accordingly, but there still won't be the customers to buy it. For evidence, the best bar (Alibi), the one a businessman could take a client to for lunchtime drink and food (on expenses) has just closed.

You mentioned mid/high market, fine, you name it in Bradford?

I'm just relating what I've been told. I've also heard that a new tenant is already lined up for Alibis although I don't know how reliable that source is. Mamma Mia's is a mid restaurant. It's been there decades so I guess it must be doing something right.

I think you are outed. But anyway................ where is the higher end you mentioned? Alibis was a bar that would have been rammed in Leeds, I could not fault it, the fact it's gone is the important bit, not what might take it's place because whatever that might be, it will be lower market.

If I don't want asian food (I normally don't anyway) and fancy a change from Mama Mia's, our City has about 10% of the choice I had 30 years ago.

Nice looking hotel, yours looks a lot better than where I usually stay, across from the station, Hotel Medio Dia, your roof terrace looks great. The station is worth a visit for a beer and the botanical gardens, the area is a great place to stay. Go out late, things don't get going till after midnight in lots of places.

The Bernabeu is not my favourite but it's the best football stadium in the world IMO, v Valencia is a good game and worth paying for IMO, you only live once! You won't have any problem attending the other games. Never been to Getafe's place. Rayo's is wonderful and worth going to hours before KO for a good day out, it's an oddball, very traditional local club like Union Berlin & St Pauli, use the metro & eat and drink before the game. Is the ground open again, La Liga shut it a few weeks ago?

You cater for your crowd unfortunately. The vast majority of Bradfordians would see eating out as a family bucket at KFC or a 'cheeky Nandos'. Being honest here. Would you, as a guy who seems to know about eating establishments, open anything other than a fried chicken shop in the centre of Bradford? Have you seen the state of the place? Like the cast of the living dead up sticks and relocated to the centre of Bradford.

Outed? What a bizarre thing to say. Note that I never stated that Bradford had a plethora of mid/high end restaurants. In fact if you read my post on this it states the opposite. I simply stated that the bar at the top of Ivegate is intending to serve food aimed at the mid/high end. If you think they are completely foolish to do so then you are free to hold that position. They obviously think different.

It seems that Alibis is opening elsewhere. Could be Leeds, could be Bradford, could be anywhere. As a concern it doesn't seem as though they have gone for good. We also don't know for sure why they left the tunnels. Maybe they were losing money (although it seemed to be one of the busiest bars in there). Perhaps the lease was up and they didn't like the new terms. Who knows.

I don't think I said that one could but I also don't know the full facts as to why they closed shop. Do you? The Westleigh closed but not because it was losing money. The former tenant didn't like the terms of the new lease.

Well the fact it was dead most nights including the weekend gives a large clue

If it was busy the lease could be justified.. if that was ever an issue

Not a table spare last time I was in, not long ago. It was early Saturday evening though and not a football day. Lease could certainly play a part because it could be the difference between opening and closing.
Anyway whatever the reasons it's pretty much irrelevant to the thread. I posted a comment that Bar 39 intend to serve food and it seems to have morphed into the merits (or otherwise) of opening something in Bradford.
