Alas, I think out judicial system stinks and we only get told what we need to know or what the powers that be think we should know.

There's a LOT that goes on that we never get to find out about. There are trials going on right now that we know nothing about, because someone deems us as not worthy of knowing such things.

So, as far of freedom of speech is concerned I wouldn't trust our judicial system one bit.

How do you know that there are trials going on right now, if no one knows anything about them?

Courts are open. If you want to watch it in process I think you can just go down there and watch if you like.

    Lo
There's are lots of references covering a lot more areas of the law than you'd think.

What are secret courts and what do they mean for UK justice? https://www.theguardian.com/law/2013/jun/14/what-are-secret-courts?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

    https://www.opendemocracy.net/ourkingdom/jo-shaw/secret-courts-8-nightmare-scenarios-now-possible-in-britain-0

    https://www.libertyhumanrights.org.uk/tags/secret-courts

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

AFAIK Trial dates are published. Anyone can observe. You can easily find 'phone numbers for the courts. Make sure you leave your mobile 'phone in the car and just walk in. There is no mystery. It's public (except in exceptional circumstances)

It must be nice to be so naive and trusting.

First of all it was the tautology of your response I was highlighting. How can you know a court hearing is taking place if it is secret. A bit tounge in cheek!

Secondly there will be no hearings today, so nothing will be happening now, they will have adjourned to Monday. So a little pedantic.

The matters which you refer to above, are not related to the matter which caused this thread to commence.

No known court proceedings involving criminal matters, and the member of Bradford City playing staff exist, as there are no reported charges, at this juncture.

Given the nature of the investigation, if charges are brought, more likely than not it will be dealt with in ‘open court’, at a Crown Court level. The Judge with conduct of the case, will determine if certain sensitive evidence, will result in the public gallery being cleared.

If you don't believe it, just wait for the court date to be published (if it happens), go there yourself, make some notes and post back on what you thought.
It is neither naive nor trusting. It's the law.

Totally agree. Definitely not related to this case. It was more just a general comment on the legal system, in which I have absolutely no faith.

Yes. I wasn't referring to this particular case. That will most certainly be in open court. Sorry if that is how it came across. It was more just a general comment on our judicial system overall.

You should go to a trial or two - It's boring as hell but it might restore your faith. :)

We seem to blessed with a lot of posters who know a lot about the criminal justice system on this board.

Been to a few when I was a student, but then two things happened.

Firstly, I did jury service (a rape trial). That made me realise that the jury and those watching are not hearing the whole story. It wasn't until after the case was finished that as a jury we were informed about some of the legal shenanigans that had gone on before we'd walked in to the room. Very clever shinanigans that we were NOT allowed to know about for legal reasons.

Secondly, was when I spent two years in a legal battle and realised that the law had very little to do with 'laws' and more to do with the dubious practices carried out by lawyers and barristers to maximise their fees and NOT to see justice being done.

Nothing would restore my faith in the British legal system (or lawyers, barristers or judges). It used to be the admiration of everyone in the world, but it no longer is and it doesn't even get into the World Justice Project's 'Rule of Law' index any more.

Sorry meant to say into the Top 10.

We're obviously still in the index but not, IMHO, where we should be, but hey, at least we're several places above the USA, which alas, is now the legal system we seem to be turning in to with lawyers trying to grab business at every possible turn (dubious injury claims, bit of tummy ache on holiday, etc). Like America, our legal system now revolves around money and not justice, and anyone who thinks differently hasn't had anything to do with the legal system.

As for the young man at the centre of this thread, I just hope that proper justice is done, whatever that might be.

Ok, but I don't agree with it, unless the employer has facts known to influence the suspension.

Big Rod made points I disagreed with, Storck made one about teachers that I instinctively agreed with, but after thinking about it, I disagree with that too. I've read about the increasing amount of fake claims against teachers, a claim is bad enough, but a suspension is going to kill their careers. "No smoke without fire" "Suspended from profession" colleagues will talk about it, parents will talk about it, new potential new employers won't like it. I don't care about how serious an allegation is, just whether is true or not.
