    With you there mate.
I had a customer complain about his exterior door we had fit about 10 years before. Out of courtesy i called to have a look and found it still had the grey priming paint we had fit it with, he had never finish painted in all those years and wondered why it had started to rot.

Stop scaremongering Park. There is a tiny bit MIGHT come down during the early hours, other than that - blue sunny cloudless skies

I see you have ignored all the replies to your silly post. I wonder why

Dig a trench down about 30 feet on the pitch side of the wall that is supposed to sit below the pitch and was part of the foundations of the original MR stand, drill some bloody big holes in the wall then refill up to about 5ft with gravel. Like a "french drain".

Either that or bite the bullet and install undersoli heating so it doesnt get as wet.

Apparently, '...in 2018 the drainage was relayed, including punching through the much mentioned retaining wall which had acted as a block to free drainage'. According to Roger Owen see post #43. He again commented on this at #73, '...in 2018 which I personally witnessed. The current drainage is at a level that will collect and dispose of water and these is no impermeable layer that ‘fills’ the substrata back as high as the surface'.
Trevor at post #74 states. '...We have two drainage systems under the pitch, One is a deep system installed in the Premier league and drains in to the Midland road public drainage via channels under the midland road stand, The second is a top system where drainage channels are dug approx 1 metre deep at intervals across the pitch filled with drainage infill. This was done in 2018 with an assurance that if looked after then the pitch would not waterlog. Of course one of the problems with the pitch is in the past it was higher in the middle than the edges witch aided natura drainage off the pitch but nowadays the pitch is Korrowed each season which has levelled the playing surface which is good for football but not for drainage'.

I must admit that from what I can see drainage and frost damage is a significant concern. If the drains are sufficient, then stopping abnormal amount of water getting onto the pitch seems to be the issue. The other matter is stopping heavy frosts damaging it. The current covers do not seem to be able to deal with these situations. My personal view is that new and more effective covers may well offer a solution

I suspect tech has moved on Rod , I can’t seem to find anything to replicate the Filbert St set up for football stadia

I didn’t realise players could train underneath it!

“It features the nationally famous polysphere tent which was unique to Filbert Street and protected the pitch from frost and snow.”

Why will undersoil heating stop it getting wet? Will it boil the water off the pitch?

No, but it would help dry the surface out better than not having it. No coincidence that PL & CC teams rarely suffer waterlogging

That's to do with the drainage rather the undersoil heating, also they have heat lamps all over the pitch 24/7 in the colder months which keeps the grass healthy and helps prevent waterlogged pitches. It's no coincidence that in the last few seasons when our pitch has been one of the best in the league we've not had postponements for waterlogged pitch.
For the limited benefit that it would have it's not worth the huge cost of installing and maintaining it.

I was going on a cruise in 2015. The ship couldn’t dock very high winds in Southampton. So they put us in the Southampton FC facilities to wait. We went down to look at the pitch like you do, and I was astonished. They had about 10 rows of lamps on the pitch that stretched right across the pitch. It had auto timing and during winter it was on most nights. The ground staff said they have had lush pitches as the lamps provided heat and light so the grass never stopped growing.

Just one issue, heat lamps, and healthy grass doesn’t stop a waterlogged pitch. Ask Colchester.
