Oliver did well in a team that basically put crosses in and knocked it long something we where never gonna do under Hughes ......... so whose idea was it or who recruited him ?????

As for Derbyshire being a mate of Hughes so effing what that 18 month deal should never have happened and thats down to the powers that be ............. i mean £2k a week could have gone towards the wages of someone whose gonna make a difference ............ still doesnt matter what money we have Gent and co will mess it up.

I mean i could get it every 3/4 signings 1 may be a dodgy one but its the other way round with us

The majority of clubs we have faced over the years have had to shop at Lidl yet they somehow they can cope with it ............. maybe they simply dont hand long deals out to over the hill footballers ?????? Maybe the loan deals they bring in are justified to meet there needs unlike that circus down the road

I was thinking more of a player who had payed at least a full season or more, Wright was very good during the later stages of his time Valley Parade and although I liked Critchlow he wasn't an ever present 36 league games, I'd think both would get in our present squad not sure they would offer that bit extra to get us a play off place.

We’ll always scrutinise our club more than any other, but who’s to say other clubs don’t recruit as poorly as us? I think the most common theme with successful clubs is giving a manager time to build. Mansfield, Stockport, Wrexham, Barrow have managers who’ve been given time. Our recruitment is built on trying to be successful in one season. A near impossible task for any head of recruitment.

Of course. However, maybe manager, Gent, and Sparks were not singing from the same hymn sheet? Communication at our club is hardly top class.

I'm seeing Gent being criticised for Angol re-signing, signing players that the manager doesn't play or fit his system and a bloated squad.

Surely that's on Hughes? Have I misremembered Sparks saying the manager has the final say (within his budget.

Hold the guy to account for sure, but only for what's in his control.

If we sell Young for a fee, along with Lewis, Gent has done his job has he not? Brought in players to develop and sell.

when was the last time we did that?

    wells? hanson? Wyke?

Oh, we have signed some dross too. But think some criticism of Gent is a bit OTT

I think Gent is like others in that he also suffers from the club having no real strategy from the top. Told to scout young players for a possible development and sell on and we don't play them, then having a manager swapping and changing formations.

No I get you, but he’s contracted to us, so we still benefit via a fee.

i think we got lucky handing out three year contracts like confetti, though we have also got some other dross to move on, on the flip side of our confetti approach

Absolutely. Toughened him up by shipping him off. Worth a few quid is that. Takes proper foresight and planning.

He was always going to do well there with Williamson and their style of play.

By my workings out, and I am probably wrong, we have made 34 signings since Gent arrived. In my opinion, 22 of them have been very poor, and 6 of them have been fairly poor, leaving 6 being "decent". It's not a great return.
