Not read the thread but not disappointed in the slightest at this as long as the fee funds strengthening elsewhere and we have a decent replacement plus back up (don't know the other keeper brought in tbh). Lewis has not been the player of last year.

Leaving it stronger than we started in who's opinion though - his? I for one am sad to see HL leave despite his dip this year but he should leave very much with our blessing. And at least the club have acted swiftly for a replacement - whatever the quality so think we should be thankful for that at least. Let's hope it's the first of many changes for the better - 20 days still to go!!!!

Our squad had as much quality as Stevenage or Carlisle last season. We just had a manager, that lost his nerve when they kept theirs.

I don't believe there is much wrong with quality of this squad. What happened is that Hughes decided he frazzle brains, by playing a system unsuited to his football and so we wasted 10 matches.

Your point out having 'quantity' is a good one. But that means we could still get more quality players, less of them for the same budget.

Also the budget in 2019 was a League 1 one. Or do you mean 19/20, when we did go for it. If it's stayed the same then that's no great surprise, because due to Covid, budgets of other clubs haven't rocketed up.

It would be very hard to find such a keeper in the January window.

Can you go back and read again? Our budget in cash terms is the same. We are under the FFP by some distance. Your argument is that it is enough but my argument is that we are still in LG2 or have I missed our promotion? MH could have done better yadda yadda but the fact remains if your purpose is to seek promotion then you pull out all the financial stops you can to achieve. I am saying to both Rupp and Sparks it is time to put up or shut up. I don’t want to hear about competitive budgets or good budgets I want to hear we have bought quality players that can achieve that. I like GA he looks like a man on a mission.

There’s just awful abuse on Twitter about anyone associated with City and I just don’t understand how people can be so aggressive about selling a reasonable keeper but hardly our best ever as some describe him.

My take, its not so much about the transfer why people are so angry its about the lack of ambition !

All I'd say is that other costs have increased e.g. utilities (massively), non-playing staff etc.. Not saying the playing budget shouldn't have been increased but it's likely that the extra income vs. 2019 has mostly gone on paying those increased costs.

That is why you cannot run the club sustainably without investment and still make progress.

Complete shambles, selling Lewis for peanuts and then signing a journeyman keeper. The club should have lined up a good replacement rather than a cheap one.

But the point is, as we've seen with Salford, it is no guarantee.

If we've given managers Top 6 budgets and there is little to contradict this, given the comments you see around - then you'd expect us to be in at least the play-offs for all of those seasons. Plus because we can attract some players who wouldn't come to L2 otherwise (i.e. Walker) we should be able to get better value for the transfer budget than most (certainly not all) others.

We can't just airily dismiss the fact that there's been nothing wrong with the budgets.

I mean what do you want? Rupp to plough in five times the budget so we can have five Nick Powells and watch them fail to deliver, just like they have at other clubs. It still would not be a guarantee - nor does it make it more likely.

What we need to do as fans is actually for once get behind a manager in the hard times or rather have a CEO with the balls to back the manager (yes, this is what I don't rate about Sparks).

Clough has been moaned about so much at Mansfield, it's almost astonishing when their fans are not moaning. Maybe it's the three years and a decent budget for all of those, that has helped slowly shape the team and finally (perhaps) get over the line. More likely it's probably because their owner, doesn't listen to the fans moaning. Just like Lawn/Rhodes did with Parky, they back a good manager during the hard times. Just like we should have done with Adams - who always takes at least a season to get his teams promotion ready.

In other words it's pointless having the biggest transfer funds and then having a Watford and Salford attitude to the managers.

On the face of it a quite honest conversation from GA. I know some will tear it apart as they do, but it appears to me to be genuine honesty from the manager.

As expected, fees from Young and Lewis sales won't be reinvested.

    Sustainable though.

But this is about success in football not Iiz Truss economics for growth, if thats the way this club is going all you get is stagnation definitely not growth, the only way this club or any other club for that matter is going to go forward is investment unless you are really lucky and a one off

Sadly folk on here will make out the likes of me and you want millions thrown at it
..........we simply dont we want some kind of plan where it looks like we are heading in the right direction but sadly yet again we are going knowhere .............. how many thousands have bought season tickets probably knowing that its gonna be yet another wasted season ??????

Sorry but its time Rupp actually got of his arse and help repair the damage him and his dickhead mate created ............. how many years did it take us to get to the brink of Championship football ?????
I cannot recall mass money being thrown at it ................it was run like a club should be run with everyone in the same boat pulling the same way .............not like this sham which is frankly embarrassing.............how can the likes of Stevenage go from dead certs to be non league bound to a chance of promotion to the championship ??????
How can these clubs continue to get it right and we continue to bumble around year after year.
