@Storck@Storck Since you mention Otley, I would suggest an Italian restaurant, Buon Apps in its new location by the river on Mill Lane. You turn right just before the bridge. It is very popular and its new location is lovely. You will probably need to book whatever day you go. Had a couple of good quality meals there.

She always wants to go McD but I can not stand it. It is somewhere I connect with when I was drinking

Stay away then. I had the buffalo hot wrap the other day and it nearly knocked my knickers off. Really hot stuff.

It is somewhere I went as an excuse to pop out. Strange really as it is the only place, not the pubs. Weird how a brain works.

I went there once............. there is the stripped back/industrial design and taking the piss, they were the latter, I didn't appreciate walls made from OSB, was a joke (I hope).

Went to The Doghouse in Leeds yesterday, I actually went in the bar next door but the outside space appears to be shared and I was pissed...again. Comfy sofas, laid back vibe, all ages, rammed. Bizarrely, I noticed a framed pic of the cup winners from 1911! Not sure which bar it was in, The Doghouse or next door.

Just back front The Stone Trough in Rawdon, first time I've been in maybe 10 years or so. It's strange how fast these soulless large chain pubs have been rendered so old fashioned by the craft beer/micro pub trend. It's decor was utterly bland, corporate pictures and jargon everywhere, matt grey walls, block green walls, horrible halogen downlighters causing me to move tables till I found myself out of the spotlight. It was clean but just so blah.....like a Wetherspoons but not as good or as busy.

I have what I always do at chains, fish and chips, I do this in the belief that it's hard to get wrong. I think they were £9.95 but IMO, worth a fiver tops, not many chips and they were pale yellow slug like texture, weirdest tartar sauce I've ever tasted, runny & tasteless mushy peas, the fish was a decent size and not bad. Blah food in blah joint.

No beer was taken! Had a diet coke as I am still recovering from Satdi when I set off for Halifax Town but didn't actually get there.......

Aye - suits this thread, I reckon.

    Not too surprised, unfortunately.

Following on from the Bradford Brewery news, it seems that the (always rammed) Friends of Ham has gone into administration.

I know their newer place didn't take off but the one in Ilkley's seemed steady on my couple of visits.

Suppose it shows that just because somewhere is bust doesn't mean it is making money, and vice versa.

I used to manage an Ember Inn and to be honest the food wasn't cracking. The fish was pre battered and frozen. The whole menu came in frozen except the meat, chicken was frozen and defrosted. Everything was cooked one of the following ways. Boil in the bag, microwave, fried or grill. Only stuff I ate was steak or gammon. It could have all changed as that was 10 years ago when they didn't allow kids in and had no music or TV.

Use the one in Leeds near the station. Surprised as always seemed fairly full. The one in Ilkley always serves very strong beer, so when in town for a beer go to the Flying Duck, Bar T'at, and Crescent. Agree with @abbomf@abbomf view about these chain places and would give the Listers Arms (a soulless venture) a wide berth.

Places which we have eaten in the last few weeks include the Fleece at Addingham. First venture since it has reopened. The food was okay, a decent pie Chicken and Leek with Triple cooked chips, peas @ £13.95. Drink was uninspiring in its choice. Black Sheep Bitter, Thwaites Wainwright, and Ilkley Mary Jane, which was my actual choice.

A far more interesting lunch was at the Freemasons Wisewell, https://www.freemasonsatwiswell.com/menus a bit further a field but very good quality cooking. The pub is a little difficult to find, as it is down a side street. The interior is traditional but very well done and it feels very comfortable. Worth a day out and combine it with a trip to Byrne's one of the best wine merchants in the country!! https://dbyrne-finewines.co.uk/

We've not been to the new place yet but we're planning on going next month with some friends. We've been to the 'old' Buon Apps in the mill complex on the other side of Otley on a couple of occasions and everything was first rate - the food, the service, the surroundings, the drinks - both times. And I'm a fussy sod!

It sounds like despite moving premises, they've taken all the other good bits with them
