and first reports of trouble are from the counter protests

 

Read it again this weekend would it really have made any difference to have it any other time but not this weekend, no respect shown by the organisers with regards this SPECIAL WEEKEND, do stop moving the goal posts to try and make you point relevant.

 

Yes just seen the news. Shock , the disgraceful Home Secretary caused this by attacking the police, leaving the juxted position the Nazi supporting nutcases found themselves in by supporting neither Jewish people nor Muslim or peace protestors. The police had to be the only target remaining .

I also read the leader of the EDL disappeared in a taxi. Where have we heard that before lol!

My grandad who was a Bradford Pal and survived , will be turning in his grave if he could see these Nazis any where near the Cenotaph .

You obviously haven’t read my earlier posts in this thread, and the Israel thread, very well if that’s what you think. There’s absolutely no excuse for the horrors perpetrated by Hamas, and I’ve made that view crystal clear several times. And I fully understand why they feel the need to respond strongly and to get rid of the Hamas tunnels.
But indiscriminate blanket bombing of innocent civilians, causing many times the number of deaths and casualties inflicted by Hamas, not to mention restricting access to the basic necessities of life, is both illegal in international law and immoral in my book, especially as it won’t achieve their stated aim of destroying Hamas.

Netanyahu is a thoroughly nasty piece of work who no longer has the support of most of his electorate. He is now widely blamed in Israel as partly responsible for allowing the build up of Hamas capacity in Gaza. He took his eye off the ball by focusing so much on appeasing the ‘Greater Israel’ proponents, intent on flooding the West Bank with illegal settlers. None of that excuses what Hamas did, of course. The only hope of getting an end to all this conflict is to get some politicians in power, on both sides, who are prepared to compromise. As I said before, that will require a settled homeland and economy for Palestinians, so that support for Hamas withers away.

 

Yes, the timing is undoubtedly poor. But people are clamouring for a ceasefire NOW. The march (and others like it worldwide) is intended to show Israel that millions of people, whilst sympathetic to their losses and security concerns, oppose their blanket slaughter of innocent civilians. Another five thousand people might have died by next weekend. Hence the perceived need for urgency.

 

Do you seriously believe today's march will have any effect on a ceasefire.

 

Your correct I didn't read the piece I prefer fellow members opinions, even though I might disagree.

 

the whole point of protest is to gain publicity etc so the timing is perfect as it has led the news all week. It would be like teachers going on strike during the holidays

surely those that gave their lives so that people could say and do what they wanted when they wanted.

 

Most recent arrest figures release are over 100 counter protesters, plus a number not allowed to leave a pub for a period, compared to none from the main protest.

Of course not. "Total freedom" doesn't mean "do what you like", and in any case, "total freedom" doesn't and absolutely shouldn't exist. That isn't at all what the Allies fought and in many cases died for.

If 300,000 people in the UK turned up to protest on behalf of the Palestinians, it means about 66 million people didn't.

 

I hope they stay away on Sunday and let the people who want to pay their respects to the fallen do it with dignity as usual.

 

Just turned the BBC News on and their saying 200,000 so much for the organizers 1 million.
Netanyahu on TV telling Lebanon not to get involved.

 

The 300,000 probably consisted mainly of "new" Muslims, i.e. the most recent (historically) converts.

At best they may be of Syrian or Jordanian heritage that is "true" Arab lineage.

But the majority I believe may be slightly east of those centres of civilisation.
