If we followed NFL the clock is stopped every time the ball leaves the pitch. On average there are 20 goal kicks, 10 corners and 40 throw ins per game. Even if you averaged 10 seconds for each so you are looking at over 10 minutes for them alone at very least. This doesn't include injuries, goals, subs and free kicks.
We can't afford to pay referees enough to be full time professionals, as I said it's not just the cost but where are these officials coming from? If you take them from non-league then that reduces their quality and means officials are getting promoted before they are ready

Well that’ll teach the ball boys not to run off with the ball.
Same with crowd not giving ball back. Will just get added on and we know we can’t defend for shit after 90 mins

    .
With the multi ball plan it shouldn't matter what the ball boys do, only problem I can see is crowd keeping the ball and then throwing it back on the pitch when the game has restarted.

Even without the multi ball that does happen every now and again, the guidence to referees seems to be that if that happens and the game is continuing to carry on if the extra ball isn't impacting the game. If this got an issue I wouldn't be surprised if they FA started clamping down with fines and saying clubs have to throw out people who do it then it would soon stop.

The independent time keeper , that was in the question posed I replied to!

So we can have VAR in the Prem yet lowly L2 get garbage officiating and no VAR. Why should they be different?

Can just see some crowds grabbing a ball and keeping it until a significant moment and then lobbing it back on

    Let’s call him Colin?
No idea, there are plenty of County referees or indeed the 4th official , who largely does feck all anyway.

Can’t wait for the meltdown on here when we are 1-0 up and the opposition equalise in added time and then the completely opposite reaction the match after and how the system works perfectly when we are 1-0 down and equalise in added time.

The main thing that pisses me off about the time wasting issue is the reluctance of referees to clamp down on it straight away.
They seem to think that it’s only an issue in the last 10 minutes, and only by teams who are winning.
We saw a few home games last year when the opposition started the so called dark arts from virtually the first whistle.
It’s just as much time wasting in the first 15 minutes when the score is 0-0 as it is when a team is 1-0 up.

Hopefully the new adaptation of the laws give the refs a bit more licence to clamp down on the teams who come for a 0-0 from minute 1.

County referees will be refereeing county leagues. 4th officials have to control the technical areas, check players who are coming on as a sub or from an injury, cover the administration of substitutions, explain to managers why the referee made decisions and they are also watching the match for anything the other officials watch.

We never had 4 th officials, “ managing” the tech area for what over a hundred years. He holds a sub number up. Why can’t he do it. He only needs a stop watch. It’s not rocket science.

Somehow I think you are looking for reasons not to make it work. Instead of griping at my suggestion , get YOUR thinking cap on perhaps? You expect the referee to account, tally, act upon and NOTE all this time and officiate the game as well…really? So your ideas are what?

Doubt it. They'll be rubbing their hands in glee about the extra head start it's going to give them in beating the traffic.

I’ve never understood why so many people leave when a game is finely poised.
Eg. The Colchester game last season. Rafts of people left early only to get back to their car to find out we’d won 2-0.
Why did they bother turning up in the first place. Lol

    100 % agree.

The last thing I want to see is fans and players guessing how long will be added, and then how long the added time will actually last.

    Just give us some clarity.

Last season we saw added time increase dramatically - except for one or two pillock refs who for some reason didn't have to be the same as the others routinely giving 7-10 minutes, and giving 3 or 4 instead.

It's not hard. All they do is have 2 watches, 1 for the 45 minutes and the other for stoppage time. When the 45 minutes is up they look at the other watch and add on what it says How do you think sunday league referees do it when they are by themselves. If we are saying time keeping is an issue across football then this idea on solves it for the top levels who have a 4th official.
