Yep, a regular train trip would have been much better as good as the band at Keighley station were.

Late on this thread but some fine ideas cheers.

Being single I tend to be a little intoxicated when or if I decide to scran. Had a beautiful steak in Knaresborough last month at the ' I really can't remember, and I've checked Google', done to perfection a nice rare fillet, Although like others I'm more partial to rump or rib eye.

Just wanted to mention really that although it's some years back now Guissspe's Backyard served an absolutely historic (a nod to Mr Winner), Italian trifle. No idea what it's like now but superb then.

Read Winner all the time in the Times but A.A. Gill was my personal favourite, brilliant writer. One day he was giving some poor steakhouse a real going over all of dubious quality according to him but when he then mentioned in a throwaway fashion that the place had 'a dancefloor the size of an unmarked grave' I was almost in tears of laughter.

I think the Backyard place is shut now. Might be wrong.

Gill was ace wasn't he? His replacement - Marina O'Loughlin - is a quality writer too.

Keep your (intoxicated or otherwise) recommendations coming.

PS - what's your stance on hash browns on a full english?

    I think a POLL is due ?

For me, Hash Browns offset the normal 'greasy' Sausage, Bacon an' Egg routine (Pre year 2000).
Add sliced Mushrooms, grilled tomato, with beans, and you have the perfect start to any day.
Top that with toast and a glass of fresh Orange Juice - and you have a full monty to carry your digestive woes. (£6.50) ;)

    I can .........
But do any of you have access to and order an all day Breakfast in a flat cake ?
30 minutes of eating joy, which would see me through from 10.00 AM right upto my evening dinner.

    Here's what I get (locally) ..........

    An eight inch flat cake
    Four rashers of Bacon
    Two sliced Sausages
    Two fried Eggs
    sliced Mushrooms
Two diced slices of Black Puddin'
    Tomatoes
    Beans
    Tea / Coffee / Fizzy drink ............. ALL for £4.50 !!

Costs about £5.00 from the trailer just off Junc 27 (M62) A650 toward Bradford (before 13.30)
I get there about 11.00, before the 'rush' starts, once a month.
Always good service, clean and thoroughly enjoyable. :)

I do my 'own' re; Bubble and squeak.
I always 'over prepare' the Sunday roast veg.
    Ready for Monday AM ;)

    All in 'Fry-up' .......
Diced Carrots, infact any veg, along with mashed 'New' Potatoes and Roasties. All done with Lurpak not lard, of course.
Add to that any meat to 'Pull' and what a great early Brunch for Monday. :)

    Bread and Butter pudding.

Oh yes. An old Army Sergeant mate in the catering Corps taught me this - years ago.
    And still goes down well......

Take a stale loaf of sliced white bread, and cut into 1/2 triangles.
Butter the slices and place in a Baking dish alternately (one up, one down).
Split each division and place a tea spoon of mixed dried fruit in the gap.
Sprinkle Castor sugar over the top.
3/4 drench in Full fat milk and bake. (250 degrees)
30 minutes before done, top the whole lot with a mix of Orange and Lemon zest.
Serve with either Hot custard, or chilled Cream.
I've always enjoyed it, and so have my guests. I hope you do too. :)

All good m8. A bit 'fusion' but I think you can get away with that on a cooked breakfast. As long as nobody tries to stick a pancake on we're ok.

An alternative to the onions (depending upon taste) is either diced Leek or sliced mixed Peppers. I also prefer a dash of Lea & Perrins, rather than Brown sauce. ;)
But HO ! Different tastes add to the recipie book, huh ?
