Let’s hope Chapman comes back with the form he was showing when he picked up his injury

I'd take Williams, I rate him.

Funny thing is, you can get quality, you can even get it on loan - as with El Mizouni at Leyton Orient - but most of the team, League Two midfielders are available on a free or for a small fee (as with George Moncur).

The temptation is always to look at 'the best' players, but this is League Two: quite often 'the best' players are either old, or relatively inexperienced. It's hard to know who 'the best' player in League Two will be, most seasons, as sometimes a 12 goal striker magically morphs into a 31 goal striker when he hits 32.

Who knows. Our best player next season might be some random we pick up who nobody cares about when they sign.

That’s where training and development of players come into. As with Cook, it looks to me that we have developed him to a better striker. We need better quality in midfield. I think we need wingers and players who can play wingback. We need to have the ability to change our shape and do things differently.

He will be 32 in a few weeks, so his legs will have gone!

Jonny Williams might have scored 10 last year, but he's only scored 11 in his previous 270 games.

He was part of a defence which conceded 19 goals in open play in 46 League games.
    We've had worse defences!!

His problem is his injuries and he was managed through last season so if we got him he would likely be put on a special training plan like Stubbs is which isn't ideal.

The stats on conceding from set pieces was abysmal and needs changing. Can the same defenders do this having failed last season or do we need better?

Aerially, we're not a big team, which is suicidal in this division. From the team that started at Carlisle, I'd say only Stubbs and Cook are strong in the air, Critchlow at a push but he's a better defender when the ball is on the floor. Contrast that with Carlisle (and 99% of the other sides in this league) and they have 5-6 aerial threats minimum. Its not a surprise our set piece record is crap.

I prefer man to man marking at set pieces that way you have the responcabilty for your player should he score, rather than now where everyone stands with their hands on their hips looking around.

I've pointed out before but I think this was a systemic fault rather than individually.

Conceding similar goals from Smallwoods area on the back post was something we should have corrected earlier imo and with a reshuffle there and possibly one or two signings that can add to our height I think we should be better in that particular stat next season.

Indeed. Moxon at Ayr would not have been on many clubs radars and he went to Carlisle as he's local boy. Sometimes you just get v lucky. T Wright suddenly came good. Stockton had a number of years of being bang average then, whoosh

Agree with that. Bigger fullbacks maybe? How about Foulds?

We had Oliver missing who would probably been on the pitch towards the end of games.

Lots of players are a good fit at one club and misfits at others we have one in Oliver I think Cook has made a wise decision from a career point of view
