Decent signing, 6ft3, 27 years old, from what I remember he looked rather athletic going forward. Also played all his career in the north of England/Scotland, so looks like this could be a go'er.

I asked a Barrow fan on Facebook what he's like, this was the response,

He is class and been a great servant ,everyone’s gutted to lose him as he is very consistent, injury free and gives his all.
Don’t think one supporter wanted him to leave but good luck to him.
He’s great going forward as well,I guess he’s off to Bradford then?

I would be very happy if we signed him. Looked good each time I've seen him.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him back at his hometown club Carlisle though

Brough seems all right, but let's not forget Barrow thought Platt was the man too

They've got both Armour and Mellish though on the left, so they seem pretty well stocked so far.

How do you know without being there. There were some players who had plenty of poor games whilst others were frozen out. There is a hint of favouritism

Fair play to him. He's stuck at it. Getting released by Carlisle & Morecambe can't have boosted his confidence.

You would think at 27, the money would talk. Can't imagine he's earned big money at those clubs.

Platt has proven to be a decent signing

One of several regular starters who aren't good enough for a promotion side imo.

I don’t think we can pack the team with LG1 players. Platt is a lg2 player and steady as you go type.

For the vast majority of the season he was a regular starter in a team that achieved play offs, so in fairness to him he’s done enough to prove this season he is good enough. Also at 25yrs there’s still good time for further development.

That said when I compare to Stubbs, Platt plays back up to him.

Thankfully CB is not an area of our squad needing desperate attention. However I do believe Stubbs needs someone left sided to complement (although I think he actually looked better on that side when he played with Platt). Still would be over the moon to see Crichlow return but not holding my breath.

My fear if we go with the Platt & Stubbs partnership is the mobility, both are really slow and because of Stubbs knee injuries, he runs like he's 20 years older than he is.

I fear that teams will just do what Crewe did, leave two quick lads on half way and just put it over the top of us knowing our two haven't a chance in a foot race. Would prefer a quick partner for Stubbs or both in a back 3.

I'd like to see Kelly given a go. He's only had a handful of cameos so far but from what I've seen, he looks decent to me.

Might as well put the Middlesbrough retained list in here, probably be linked to one or two over the summer because of Gent, especially any of the younger lads he probably worked with.

Goalkeeper Luke Daniels and defender Darnell Fisher, who made his first appearance in almost two years in the final league game of the season after a lengthy injury, are both set to depart.

And they are joined by Grant Hall and Joe Lumley, who spent last season on loan at Rotherham United and Reading respectively.

Also free to move on elsewhere are Isiah Cornet, Joe Ridley, Oliver Swan, and Alfie Doherty, along with scholars Louie Evans, Ash MacCarthy, and Tylah Wallace-Ming.

I'll be starting to question Gent's appointment if we end up with a load of Middlesbrough cast offs. I want the net cast a lot wider than that, if it happens it's just lazy.

You and me both, but after bringing in 5 or 6 ex-boro lads since Gent was approached this time last season, more an educated guess that he'll try that path once more.

I dont think its anything to do with being lazy. I think its about relationships and having that persusian to join a L2 club.

Smallwood and Chapman both well known to Gent and on paper, excellent signings. Neither a disaster, under whelming yes, but thats down to the coaching and management. Stubbs and Halliday two more he worked with at Boro. Solid signings.

Recruitment has been very good. Only a small handful of duds this season and a few work in progress at worst.
