That might not be a bad place to finish given our stronger away form.

Let’s not forget Sutton mate. They are well on form at this moment and we have to play them.

I'm not forgetting them but the stats for the last 6 games don't support that comment. We gained 10 pts and Sutton gained 9 from the last 6 games. With 9 games left to play for us and 8 games for them, they are 5 points behind us with a shite goal difference.

Since the end of Feb they have won 5 games, drawn 5 and lost 1.

    20 points from 33.

    We’ve 21 points from 36

So if their form isn’t great then neither is ours.

No, not much difference, but you said well in form. We hold all the aces, as far as Sutton are concerned. A game in hand, 5 points better off and 13 goals to the good, they also have to travel to VP, although that could be a blessing in disguise for them. They have Wallsall away and Stockport at home next two. Their goose could well be cooked before they come to us on bank holiday monday.

As a side note, we have won 7 drawn 6 and lost 2 of our last 15, since the no show at Carlisle. Hopefully the not being beaten very often carries on, with a few more draws, turned to wins..

Ok for me we have two games on paper we should be winning with ease. Rochdale away and Gillingham at home. The rest are tough including Grimsby at home on Saturday.

I think we will make the playoffs but we have a fight on our hands.

I think add Crewe to that list, Orient could be all partied up by the time we reach the last game. Crawley and Sutton are equally winnable , maybe Swindon, who will be hopefully on the beach by the time we play them. Northampton will be tough, but we gifted them the game at VP. I am looking for 5 wins 2 draws and possibly 2 defeats from the last 9 . 17 points from 27 to finish on 78 and probably 5th place.

Just had a look at the form table over the last 10 games. Then figured as most clubs have 10 games left, what about if we use the last 10 games as a starting point for the last 10 games.

    Where would each team finish??

Orient - 74 points now - 17 points from last 10 so 91 points and champions.

Northampton - 69 points- 19 from last 10 so 88 points and second.

Stockport - 63 points - 21 from last 10 (highest in the league) so 84 points and final promotion place.

    Carlisle - 66 points - 15 from last 10 so 81 points and 4th spot

    City - 61 points - 19 from last 10 so 80 points and 5th

    Salford - 62 points - 17 from last 10 so 79 points and 6th

    Stevenage - 67 points - 11 from last 10 so 78 points and 7th

Mansfield and Sutton would end up a few short of the play offs.

Now us and Stevenage have one extra game (Orient too but forget them) so that could be an advantage but we haven't used games in hand well this season, in fact a few teams have lost opportunities to gain ground when being the only team at the top playing on an evening.

So, what can we deduce from this?

We're unlikely to finish 3rd unless Stevenage continue to perform poorly or Northampton have a similar run of 10 points in 10 games AND we do even better than the last ten games. We need to average 2 points a game and hope another team stumbles.

Aside from the first 10 games where quite a few teams got over 20 points (Orient had 28 from the first 10!), clubs have struggled to get over 20 points in a ten game split so we shouldn't believe that more than 1 or 2 will do that in the last 10, and in all likelihood one of those will be Orient.

It's also interesting how the top 8 or 9 have been pretty constant the whole season, with some places interchanging.

We only have 9 games left, so you would have to deduct 2 points from your total which takes us down to 78 points.

Actually over the last 8 games we have gained 13 points. So 1.625 points per match. If we replicate that over the last 9 games we will get 75.625, even if you go up that is 76 points.

    upload_2023-3-27_22-41-22.png

If you take it down to the last 6 games we have 10 points, or 15.00000000003 a game. If we replicate that over the remaining 9 games we end up with 76 points.

Very very scarily, over the last 4 we have gained 4 points, and…..er … averaged 1 per game. If we replicate that, then we end up with 70 points and are highly likely to end up out of the ply offs.

Never discount history (last 9 or so games), but current form (last 4 games) is pretty damn scary!;)

Only one slight dampener to your optimism. Ten minus 3 equals 7. Unless I have not one clue what you're on about that is.

It all depends how you cut it really - 6 games, 8 games, 10 games...

But what comes through regardless of games is that Northampton and Stockport are on better form and have been getting more points recently. Salford have been scoring a lot more and conceding a lot more. The others - us, Carlisle, Stevenage - have pretty inconsistent form.

Orient are top because they got 28 points from their first ten and have managed to get about the same as the chasing pack since so have maintained that cushion. They certainly haven't run away with things but are clearly going up.

    Orient's season
Pressed wrong button.. Well spotted (B+) 7 with 6 to play is correct. Hardly a mountain like some fear on here. Beat Grimsby and Carlisle do a job on Orient and it's game on!

The deadline for discounted tickets ends before any of us knows which league we will be in next season, so vast majority of fans will make their mind up irrespective of whether we go up or not to take advantage of the much cheaper tickets.

    Typical comment on Orient forum:
"We are still top, true, but for how much longer?
Not much if we don't start winning games.
As for looking the goods as you put it, are you serious? We look terrible. A team that will be playing non league football next season, ran us ragged yesterday for 20 minutes. We certainly don't look the good at the moment. We have gradually been declining since Christmas to be honest."

Just noticed this coming weekends fixtures for the teams jostling at the top and quite frankly what a huge opportunity we have to keep us well in the mix, Stockport v Salford, Orient v Carlisle and Northampton v Stevenage so there is garunteed points dropped by others. If we can somehow find a win it would be huge, I personally think we'll draw again, but despite our recent disappointing results we'd look to have somehow got away with it, and as an added bonus if we end up with just another draw again yes it's a hammer blow to our fading hopes of autos but wouldn't be a total disaster as it could of been if the fixtures had landed differently.
