Matt Derbyshire - new signing , 18mth deal

Didn’t we do this with Theo Robinson (and loads of others in the past)? 18 months is madness!

 

Got to agree that 18 months does seem a bit strange for a 36 year old who hasn’t played in any major leagues for the past 6 years.

 

Getting the ball "in and around" the box is a big part of our problem
Very puzzled as MH was waxing lyrical about our 2nd choice centre forward last night

 

On the face of it a very questionable signing, especially the 18 month contract. And the fact he's been playing in India suggests no one in this country thought he was worth signing. But, who knows?

 

Exactly. Bizarre signing. We’ve just signed Oliver on a 3 year old contract and Cook is our top scorer. Where does Derbyshire fit into this team?

 

Sounds a bit like Hughes doing his mate a favour. Hopefully we've been wise to keep the wages low as we're giving him a lifeline back to the UK.

That said, let's wait and see how he plays.

Suggests to me that Dion is going back (would he have signed if Matt had in the summer?) and possibly Angol wont be getting on the bench anymore. Maybe he'll look to get a deal elsewhere.

Maybe there'll be a few more ins and outs than we were thinking.

 

Don't forget our third striker Lee "treatment table" Angol is yet again sidelined.

 

I remember in 2017 McCall wanting to sign one of his Scotland mates who was 37, he was a central defender but Edin pulled the plug and supporters weren’t happy. I suppose Hughes will get his own way these days.

Maybe Cook on his way and Derbyshire will be back up
For a manager who likes to play 1 up top he has an abundance of Strikers
All seems very strange to me

 

Mark Hughes will have known about Derbyshire's availability days ago so he already knows we're he fits in.
I think he's more likely to link up with Oliver than Cook but that's just my opinion and probably wide of the mark.

 

Well Hughes has extensive knowledge of the player so until proved otherwise we will have to trust him

Swindon will 100% get promoted now, fantastic signing for them. Derbyshire at 36, last playing English football SIX YEARS AGO!! Unbelievable.

 

We are short of a forward who plays off the shoulder especially if we are are to play 2 up front like last night. Wether this is the one we will see but his fitness will be key

 

Derbyshires record has actually been pretty decent since leaving England. I’ve no idea what level he’s been playing at though.

 

Thank god he pulled the plug. Was it at Guiseley where we saw him play? Had the turning circle of an oil tanker.

 

So City have been waiting for Derbyshire's circumstances to change hence today's signing.
Must see something in the player.
