That's not how they work though is it ? Have you ever seen a lino in one half flag for an offside in the other ?

They have system between them that they are trained in when becoming a referee and yes they give offside wherever it occurs.

The “lead” A.R will flag for offside if a player in an offside position goes back into the “trail” half and makes a play on the ball. That is the only time an AR will ever give an offside against a player not in the AR’s half.

Sorry Trev, I still don't get it. Going back to my original post on the subject its just not possible to have eyes on the passer and receiver at the same time

The AR are on opposite sides of the pitch and only operate in one half each, So for a corner one AR will watch the corner been taken and any offside on the side the corner is taken, The other AR on the opposite side of the pitch will be on the half way line for any offsides from a breakaway etc

System or not, have you ever seen a linesman in one half, give an offside in the other. They don't cross the halfway line so the only time it can possibly happen is where a player is coming back from offside into his own half, as someone esle previously explained had happened a few years ago.

But my point is the AR on the halfway line still can't simultaneously have eyes on the defender clearing the ball and the striker lurking on the halfway line. It's just not possible. The AR in the defensive half of the pitch is irrelevant

I's argue that both are irrelevant as most just wait for the referee to tell them what to give anyway. When did you last see one overrule a ref ?

Ah - so its because the ref is watching for offside from the clearance that he misses all the shirt pulling and wrestling in the box

I agree with Mark Hughes ' comments regarding the protocol for supposed head injuries. There was a stretching of the rules on Saturday as Stockport wasted time.

As a ref (I know), the AR will always flag an offside, the referee will almost always whistle as soon as he sees it. Sometimes there is the discussion about whether the player whistled is actually interfering with the play. If the ref deems not, then the offside will be overruled. Also, the possibility of an intentional slight contact by a defender that the AR can not see but the ref does. Rare but it can happen.

I'm not sure what that has to do with it? My original post was about defending the lino who can't be expected to simultaneously watch 2 areas of the pitch 50 yds apart

A dozen games is nowhere near enough time to fully integrate as a team.

Yes, we should be seeing improvements but 3 months is very premature to suggest they should be almost telepathic by now.

Should we really be taking this sort of nonsense seriously? It's hard to tell these days.

He said that any player who goes down with an alleged head injury should be taken off the field of play for 5 - 10 minutes to be assessed.
He said the if this was to happen we'd see a decrease in these 'injuries'.
