Completely agree. Not to mention that shopping centres, bars, restaurants, cinemas, theatres will all be open. But football games are called off? Its madness. If the games were on, you'd have seen mass tributes and a sense of people coming together. People have had an individual choice as to whether they attended or not. But as with most things nowadays, the freedom for people to decide for themselves what to do is being eroded.

I suspect as others have said its actually a policing and other logistical issues more than anything. I can't find exact stats but apparently the average PL attendance each weekend is 34,000 so 340,000 people just in the premier league that need policing in and around the grounds. And that's without having to deal with all the travelling to and from matches. When you then filter in the EFL, National League and the various levels below that it's going to be a really big number and its not even as if it's all going to one place, its a large number of travellers going to every corner of the country. It will be why some sports with fewer games and smaller attendance can go on and also potentially why the European matches may also be more viable as it's a more manageable scale when police forces and infrastructure may already be stretched

the Americans obviously don’t think there is enough evidence to convict him of a crime over there. A prosecutor over there could make their career with that conviction but also ruin it if they failed

He would also refuse to attend, criminals usually do , so what the prosecutors would or wouldn’t do is irrelevant.

There was no obligation for any sporting games or events to be cancelled. It has nothing to do with policing and everything to do with the FA and EFL making the wrong call, even to the extent that grass root level games for young kids have been called off. Absolute madness.

Believe me Fordy, I hate this government with a passion but I'm not prepared to blame them for something they are not responsible for. The statement issued by the government stated there was no obligation for any events to be cancelled, this is all on the FA, PL and EFL.

Dig deeper mate. It’s 100% on the government.

    Even Martin agrees with me.

it wouldn’t as the prosecutors usually then take steps if criminals refuse to attend. They don’t just stop. They have things like arrest warrants and extradition process.
So what the prosecutors do is very relevant.

The other sports couldn’t change. Cricket - flights back. Rugby no other times. They didn’t ask the government.

Boxing cancelled and this is the biggest clue it’s the government’s fault. You have fighters having to make weight coming from all over the world but it has money in the sport.

    It’s on the government mate!

The government needed to make a decision for all but failed to do so.
