Hope this forums many Bradford Reds are seeing this - your real team actually have forums of their own you could post on.

Surely those matches were on anyway so I fail to see what the Police situation has to do with it.
The Cabinet Office has said events should continue as planned (after tomorrow presumably) I’m sure the EFL have taken that into account as clearly have BCFC and others. Hence my earlier post, our next game is Tuesday at Tranmere.

    Would have been simple really
    - Choice A) Leave everything as was and folk can choose to go to games or mope at home
    - Choice B) Cancel everything and we are left with no option..

You underestimate how important they are even to you. You might think they are a useless entity that serves no purpose but it's part of the fabric of this country and shapes a big part of our national identity. Without them, we lose a chunk of what defines being British as its the Royal Family that maintains continuity while linking us to our history. Otherwise, we are just another bog-standard republic where our identity is decided solely by whoever is elected to lead. And you just have to look at France to see that being a republic doesn't make things better, they are currently in their FIFTH version in 230 years

It's also a massively unifying institution, there are so many differences that cause a divide between the nations of the UK but the monarchy is a common link that unifies us, without it Little Jimmy Crankie is much more likely to get her wish and break the United Kingdom up. They are also an important part of the commonwealth which is a useful institution both for us and also the countries in it (hence why even countries who were never in the British Empire are lining up to join). Without the monarchy being the lynchpin it would become a less tight and more political organisation.

And sure there have had their actual powers restricted since the Civil war ended in 1651 which saw the rise of our political system and its been further chipped away over the years but there is a reason why they choose to keep the Monarchy alongside the Parliamentary system unlike other countries which dissolved the Monarchy. They give continuity and can be used as a sounding board while also providing a certain amount of checks and balances. If we were to become a republic we would still need those checks and balances which would most likely mean adding a president to the prime minister but the president is likely to have more actual powers so you can end up with some butting heads and political tactics getting in the way.

As for your comments on some of the family members.

If he did sleep with her what exactly did Andrew do wrong? She was of Age in all the places he is alleged to have had sex with her and there is nothing to suggest he knew she was being trafficked. It seems more he and others were simply caught in Epstiens Honeytrap where he would use the girls to gain favour with powerful people and if those people either found out what was going on or just decided to cut him off he would blackmail them with both the situation but also any information he had the girls gleen from them (as other Epstein girls have said he always instructed them to extract info and tell him what they found out). All he really seems guilty of if it actually happened is having an eye for the ladies and showing naivety but he wasn't alone because when you are rich and powerful young girls who should be outside your league throw themselves at them so it won't seem as unusual as it does to people outside that life

Dodi Al Fayed and Diana's death is a bit Fishy but that's more at Mohammed Al Fayed end. He was the one that was using Cut and Shunt cars as the hotel VIP cars and was letting on-call drivers drink. The reason he won't shut up with the conspiracy theories is if he doesn't talk himself into believing them he will have to accept he shares a lot of blame

The traits that people say make Harry look like James Hewitts are also traits common in the Spencer family. It's unlikely the institution would almost certainly know if he wasn't Charles's and they wouldn't be tip-toeing around cutting him off completely and removing his titles if he was.

I’m guessing the police situation is if they police have to be redirected elsewhere due to manning for funeral or associated things then there might not be enough left for the matches even though the matches were organised first

Why only William and Kate? What have Edward and Sophie done to not deserve respect? Even before Harry and Meghan left the family in the lurch they had really picked up the burden when Prince Phillip scaled back and then stopped what he was doing and when the Queen cut back hers slightly. And what has Princess Ann done to annoy you, the amount of less appealing duties she does that might only get a line at the end of an article on something else is significant. Plus when we have Meghan bitching about her kids being denied titles (when they weren't they just weren't legally allowed them until now) the fact she refused all titles for her kids and had them find their own way in life surely should be applauded?

good reply Simon, but I disagree with your assessment of Prince Andrew.

It’s very naive to think he hasn’t nonced others, even if Virginia was supposed above the age of consent. He has sexually assaulted at least Virginia and abused his power and had a friendship with a convicted paedophile. That doesn’t sit right with me. The bloke is a wrong ‘un.

such debate detracts from the original point made though - the Queens family have put her through all sorts with their antics.

Luckily for her she won’t have to deal with the debris when Prince Harry’s autobiography is soon published and when his Documentary with Megan is released on Netflix. A decent lad who has been taken off the rails by a drama queen attention seeker.

Barely hear about Anne. Gets her head down but don’t notice her in the spotlight. Yes, she doesn’t offend me either.

Sophie and Edward are even more anonymous. When was the last time they did anything of note? Had to google them to remember they existed.

Surely next weekends games will be cancelled too as it’s only two days before the probable funeral date.

What politician these days has principles though? One of the issues with access to our leaders and potential leaders due to more TV coverage and the internet is politics has become more and more about soundbites and spin. Trump is the perfect example here, prior to running his politics made him a fairly centralist. There were democratic policies he supported and republican ones he did. He even praised the UK liable laws which see's us in the UK have to be able to prove what we say is true if challenged unlike America where you have to prove something said about you is knowingly false which not only is our setup deemed to go against Americas right to free speech but would also have prevented him in both his campaign and while in office (and since losing office). He knew who to get in he had to mobilise so said whatever would get their support even if before running evidence suggests his principles were different. Sadly people are increasingly influenced by soundbites so principles will continue to go further and further out of the window

The Prince Andrew interview was a shambles. Very clearly deceitful, and as far as I'm concerned he knew exactly who he was surrounding himself with.

And the Queen has had to help cover up the mess by paying off the victim (and no doubt others we don’t hear about). Paid for by the tax payer no doubt?

She must have felt so ashamed and embarrassed of him. She seemed well principled herself.

    Correction 1
Andrew did nothing wrong but paid £12m to avoid any responsibility of having sex with a MINOR ( US jurisdiction) Righty Ho! Are we saying that’s acceptable?
Correction 2 The minor concerned was proven to have been trafficked inside and outside US jurisdiction otherwise why was Maxwell found guilty? Let’s not defend the indefensible please.

As this thread has wandered a bit here's my take on it. My 70 years have almost exactly mirrored the reign of our late queen and, like her, I've experienced a lot over those years. As a young man I was very strongly of a leftish persuasion and I have retained most of those principles to this day, but I've also always been intensely patriotic and see no contradiction between my socialist views and our constitutional monarchy. As a nation we have a unique system of government which is the envy of the world. Only today we have received emails from our many friends in Italy commiserating with us for the loss of our monarch, but also expressing their admiration for the resilience of our institutions. Over the years I've come to realise that practices which I railed against in the sixties are actually a strength, and that the cultural norms that seemed outdated and even immoral at the time actually had their foundations in centuries of practice and tradition that had evolved to suit the nature of the people of these islands. Queen Elizabeth was a superb example of that, upholding the best of the past while accepting the need for change and embracing it, affording us an example to follow. But actually, as long as the monarch isn't a raving idiot, it doesn't much matter who he or she is as long as they respect the postion they find themselves in and ensure that the system works smoothly. We have been very lucky to have had our late monarch and we can only hope that Charles is half as good. I was quite impressed and reassured by his broadcast tonight, but we will see.
Before you all wade in and tell me how awful the royal family is, I can tell you that, when much younger, I danced with them all, including the queen, in the ballroom at Balmoral Castle on at least half a dozen occasions, and once hitched a lift with our new king deep in the Scottish highlands. Not bad for a working class lad from Little Horton. So you won't tell me anything I don't already know.
Regarding the cancellations, I'm not really bothered either way. Tomorrow's game's off so I'll go watch some rugby which isn't. We'll play Mansfield some time and when we do these next few days will be long into our memories. Just go with the flow.

This guy is not a happy bunny. His brother has travelled from New Zealand to the UK specifically to attend the West Ham v Newcastle match on Sunday, so I'm not surprised. No doubt there are thousands of others who have had long made plans wrecked by this daft decision to postpone games.

    https://www.themag.co.uk/2022/09/do-i-send-the-bill-to-richard-masters-absolutely-fuming-after-cancellation-of-west-ham-v-newcastle-united/

Test Match resuming on Saturday. Racing going ahead on Sunday. Rugby continuing. So what on earth is the point of cancelling football in a season already severely congested by the winter World Cup. Bonkers

Reminds me of my old next door neighbour and his experiences of meeting the queen. His daughter died of covid and the old boy basically poured his heart out to me about how he did his national service at Buckingham palace with the coldstream guards. Told me about meeting heads of state and allsorts. Something he was still proud of in his 80s. I felt proud myself listening to such a wonderful story.
