I’ve been to Derry FC a few times and whilst enjoyable, I’d be amazed if the standard was (on the whole barring the odd standout player) any better than National League - at best.
Not to say there aren’t some very good players in amongst

    This.

The SPL, on the whole, is about League One level with the exception of Celtic and Rangers, and the fact they generally are able to bring in more foreign players.

The ROI league is probably on par with some L2 teams and some NLP teams.

But there are players in some NLP teams that are far better than the average standard in that division.

The standard of the division on the whole is informative, but it's not everything. There are players all over the world playing at the wrong level. We all know that, or we wouldn't be looking at lads like Charman, and neither would anybody else who isn't already in L2. Why bother?

My thinking on Georgie being Championship quality has NOTHING to do with the fact he's playing in ROI, although you can clearly see there have always been Championship quality players in the ROI league waiting to be plucked. My thinking on Georgie is based on what I've seen, and all right, no, I haven't gone there and watched endless games, I haven't seen several 90 minute performances, and yes, I'm working from condensed snippets and video evidence, but my opinion is he's Championship quality - or POTENTIALLY Championship quality.

Hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's my opinion on the matter as it stands. I think he'd be a phenomenal signing for us, and if I'm correct, he'll come here, score goals, and get offers from Championship clubs within a year.

I bet you wouldn't be saying that if we'd signed him. He'd be shite and too old.

If you go by the data, you're 100% on the money. This lad COULD be something special and on his way to the Championship any time soon. Looks like 3 of his last 4 seasons have been pretty prolific and now at 25 he's had his best. Even from that video, his eye for a finish looks lethal, hopefully his Irish scout spotted this one and has been trying to work on him for a few months?

My fear with our link is just that we are way down the list and it's not even worth getting any hopes up. Even just the competition in our own county from Rotherham, one of the best teams in the division above, let alone across Europe, surely puts us so far down the pecking order? Yes, the "give us 12-18 months and you can go for even bigger money" argument could well work, I just think the promise of money now is too much to turn down. Rotherham would offer double anything we could you'd have thought? Let alone other clubs.

To say that I'm most often shitting on our transfer policy, I'm very happy with the Daly loan

Going to be an interesting end of the month, hopefully it's not the same as other years where we wait until the last day and sign anybody because "our other targets were unavailable as their clubs needed to replace them"...

You could say exactly the same about Danny Rowe, certainly three years ago when he was tearing it up for AFC Fylde.

    Totally agree.

And it's also all right saying something along the lines of Stefan should make sure we can offer a good financial package, but if you're picking between a promotion chasing L1 side and a midtable L2 side, those options are (sad to say) poles apart. If we get it over the line, it's big news, if we don't, it's another indictment of where we are at the moment.

However, there are several good quality players in Ireland, and there are a surprising number who are out of contract right now.

Even if the Irish papers are right that we've spoken to Georgie's team, I'd be hoping we've spoken to other players on the Emerald Isle as well. There are always other options.

Danny Rowe didn't want to play at a higher level than Fylde, that's the difference.

The Fylde chairman even expressed surprise when he chose to try his hand at EFL level with Oldham. He thought he would retire there.

As has been proven since, Rowe is easily capable of playing at this level in terms of talent, but in terms of professionalism and mentality, not so much.

I don't see any parallel between him and the Irish forward beyond "they can both play well", which in Rowe's case is very much "on his day".

We have 2 scouts covering Ireland, so hopefully if there are some decent players out of contract then potentially we are looking at them.

The Irish league certainly improved Jordan Gibson's game. He completely ripped us a new one a few weeks ago!

Have you seen his recent goal scoring record? 4 League goals in his last 50 appearances for Millwall !

Perfect fit for us. 75 goals in 350 matches at efl level. Makes Hanson look prolific. Bowyer has bought him to add steel to defending corners.

He’s 25. If he was good he would of gone to a higher club a while ago. one season wonder in a poor league. Yes he might of come good but there is no clear cut evidence to say this. One season with a few goals in a poor league does not mean he is quality. But like I said. Worth the gamble as it might be that he has found his form. It’s just not good to be throwing money at him. Not that we would anyway lol
