To be fair a lot of them do a lot of unpaid work for the club whilst others just moan about it. In my opinion @wetherbywhaler will be a big miss on here

This thread is a bit of a sad moment.

Too much hostility towards @wetherbywhaler with several comments overstepping the mark in my opinion.

Yes we're all frustrated and some are clearly very angry, and I do see that a pro-owner, progressive stance isn't in keeping with most people's feelings, but it's no excuse for some of the comments I've read - not all, but some. The 'pile on' mentality wasn't great either, with everyone trying to hammer Wetherby. We all want what's best for the club, but the methodology is different from person to person. That's fine. That's okay. No problem.

I think this board will be weaker without his presence, and I personally took a break earlier this season for similar reasons. I can absolutely understand why he will take a break now, things get out of hand with the antagonism and that's what I've seen here.

Sad moment for the forum.

 

Where were the comments overstepping the mark? He didn't like people disagreeing with him so took his bat and ball home. Quite amusing in a way, this forum is the softest place on the Internet, if you get upset on here there's really no hope.

 

Success is where you win something or are promoted.

 

Why will he be a "big miss"?

All he does is protect his position by staunchly defending anything news related that the club puts out.

There's no 'revelations', nothing we can't read in the T&A and I doubt anyone was engrossed in the gloating about attending games during lockdown.

If he wants to post on here almost as the forums "official voice of the club" then he should be bright enough and strong enough to expect the criticism and questions when things don't go so well and not run off and hide because he isn't getting his belly tickled.

In fact, he seems very much like Ryan Sparks in that regard who was hugely active on social media until the results stopped coming and then all of a sudden its back to the once weekly pre match updates.

 

I tend to agree with this, we have one or WUMs (what forum doesn't?!) and one or two occasionally go over the top (again what forum doesn't) but the vast majority try to find ways of alleviating our long standing suffering as City supporters and play at being manager/CEO/owner in the hope of maybe,just maybe, a better future. That said I do hope Wetherby will return in due course as his views and insight to the club are greater than any of us can realistically provide - even Fordy!

I saw over the weekend some fans ar our 'friends' over at Bellend Road have driven the lad who was penalised for the late penalty from all social media with their hate and threats. You ought to see the comments on the Woking fans forum at times, pretty nasty stuff and so unjustified.

All I am saying is there is a lot of well justified frustration at City but the vast majority of the time it doesn't boil over on here. And when it does occasionally go over the top perhaps it is necessary to shake us out of our apathy, as in many ways that is a far greater threat to the future

It was pretty obvious within about 15/20 posts that no actual names were going to be mentioned regarding who was supposedly involved.
Yet people keep trawling through 250 posts over 13 pages and then moan because there are no actual facts.
No sh!t Sherlock.It’s a football forum where rumours are trawled out for bait and likes.
If it’s actual “facts” that people are after I think most on here are going to be disappointed as I doubt anybody on here knows who we are in for or whose going where with 100% certainty.
That’s limited to a few people at the club and unless someone has a hotline to Sparks or Adams then it will remain pure conjecture and nothing else on here.
It’s what every forum in football is like.
I presume most people on here are fully functioning decently educated adults yet behave like spoilt kids if some keyboard warrior doesn’t provide them with names,addresses and inside leg measurements of somebody who’s going to buy the club or a player we are absolutely definitely 100% going to sign.

Right I’m off to look at the 100% factual “ transfer window” thread to see who we are actually definitely 100% cross my heart and hope to die going to sign.

 

The only thing I know owt about is how to win a Civil War and that was made hard work by Bobby Big Boots Lee. I know nowt about any takeover, but if you want me to send in Bill Sherman, he has a way of getting things done

As regards @EdwinB original post there are probably several people who might be interested in ownership of a football club. But the real question is have they got the money not only to buy the club but also to make any difference if they do. I think you will find the answer is no

 

I would argue football clubs are different to regular businesses insofar the 'customers' take a hostile view of owners drawing excessive amounts of money from the club, especially if the club is struggling to meet its on field objectives and achieve success.

Even if the owners are acting within the law, their actions can still be viewed as unethical, create negative PR and damage the business' long term viability and confidence amongst the fans.

€25k p/m would pay the wages for 5 or 6 top players at this level.
We'd almost certainly be gunning for the autos and the rewards for promotion would offset any loss in 'management fees'.

If Lawn had been paying himself £300k p/a whilst the club was struggling, the fans would have gone ballistic and rightly so.
The settling of the loan was seen as a just reward because the club had achieved it short term objectives and turned a profit.
Granted there was an element of luck with the cup runs, but no one begrudged him the 9% return.
I don't think even Edin wasn't brazen enough to pay himself €300k p/a (correct me if i'm wrong).

 

Correct. It is rumoured to be half that. His wife was also an employee
