Just another example of Tory sleaze, all led by Johnson. What a piece of weak scum Johnson is.

If he had not benefitted to the tune of £500K from the deals I would have believed him when he says he was acting in the best interests of the country BUT he took the money, his wife killed herself and he sits there and blames everyone else.

Typical tory using his dead wife to excuse himself from treating the rules with utter contempt. If he has such a low opinion of her then what was his opinion of the electorate? begs the question.

Front and foreword was the actions of a desperate tory party who always have the capacity to act without integrity collectively and without flinching. Its an entitlement which can only be born from public schooling.

It’s the using of his wife’s death to slime his way out of it that sticks in my craw. All the rest is to be expected.

Here's another interesting slant on the whole tawdry Tory debacle. The standards commissioner of the committee who investigated Paterson, Kathryn Stone, is also investigating one Boris de Clown Johnson.
She's taken a lot of flack from the dirty Tory press machine.
    I wonder why?

Using the excuse of his wife's death is about as low as you can get and as you say the rest comes as no surprise to anyone with a shred of intelligence, this sort of thing has always gone on. The 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' has gone on since the dawn of mankind.

This could actually be the moment where it all falls apart for Boris.

The vote on Wednesday was a disgrace and the whole handling of the issue is a shambles.

The only possible bright side for the Tories is that all the usual suspects shout "Tory sleeze" so often it becomes like the boy who cried wolf. When you get actual issues that are then played out and shown clearly it doesn't cut through to the public like it should.

The PM will know he has a serious problem now. When his handling of this issue is openly criticised by the Mail; when Fraser Nelson of the Telegraph describes the shambolic Govt as acting like one in its dying days and the Spectator lists his many failings on cronyism and sleeze, the PM must recognise that he is already walking the plank. It won't take much more before his own party questions his position. His next step must surely be to counter that and claim that COP26 has been a rip roaring success thanks to him. That is until his bluster is scrutinised by those COP organisations etc who really do understand the issues.

The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner (the one who yesterday a member of the Cabinet said 'Should consider her future' prior to the Govt u-turn) has already started her investigation into how the refurbishment of the No 10 flat was financed. The Govt's attempts to get her removed before she completes her investigation has already backfired. The stupidity of some members of the cabinet is beyond belief even when having to act on their boss' orders

The tories had a chance to paper over cracks by making an example of Paterson, instead they showed how they are answerable to no one as an organisation by not doing so.

All of this shows something we have always known about quite a few of the Tories and it should come as no surprise to be honest. It should be easy for Labour to get elected at the next election, that is unless certain influential members of the Labour Party would rather continue being a left wing protest group, rather than make the party electable.

Unfortunately morally corrupt MPs are not exclusive to the Conservative party. Labour should easily win the next election. But they won't.
Sums up the state of politics.

All politicians no matter what side are a bunch of self endearing corrupt cowards. I don’t even read the news anymore. Not sure why people get so heated with politics, it’s all a game and is constructed to make us minions fall out with each other.

It was deliberate, by Johnson. He is finished and his Brexit will (eventually) go with him. He knows that the game is up.

And now he's trying to brazen out being given a free week at Goldsmith's tax avoiding £25k per week luxury villa by declaring it on the ministerial interests register (which doesn't detail financial value) instead of the MPs' interests register (which does).
The thick skin and sense of entitlement is breathtaking. The man seems to think he can do what the hell he likes, without consequences.

Dominic Grieve, a former Tory member of the standards committee, said Johnson’s intervention “clearly could only be interpreted on the basis that he intended to rubbish the committee and the commissioner and undermine them”.

He added: “What this group of ministers – led by this prime minister – have done is to say this is a chum whom we are going to help. And in doing so it doesn’t matter if we trash the existing disciplinary system, which leaves it in tatters for the future. And it just so happens that at the same time, well, that might be quite convenient, because the prime minister himself might be the subject of its scrutiny shortly over his issues of non-declaration.”
