Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. According to people on here it's all just an overblown conspiracy put about by lefty newspapers, lying doctors and 'frightenened imbeciles'. Nothing to see here.

They've been opening up since the beginning of May I believe with schools and bars reopening through June. They were under pressure to open up fully because the cases were so low (like under 500) so they took all restrictions away and literally 2 days later it started to spike, doubling basically every 2 days which is nuts.

The hospital data over there in the coming weeks is going to be interesting to say the least.

We're away for 4 days there are lots of notices around reminding you of the situation, the main request when we sign in was please wear a face mask whilst walking around, when you are seated your mask can be taken off, I'd say thats not too much to ask/expect any civilised person to do when they are in mixed company.

You've taken a vaccine to move away from that, not to have that standardised.

Btw deaths will rise in the coming weeks, the reason deaths will rise is because deaths are calculated within 28 days of a positive Covid test. They aren't based on that death being Covid. As in the last week 230k people have tested positive, those 230k people will be marked down as a Covid death regardless of how they die if they pass away in the next 28 days. So the more people who test positive the higher the deaths are because the pool of people who are recorded increases.

There were several questions in the house of commons yesterday regarding changing the way these things are recorded because the way they are is skewed for fear purposes. An example was given of a pregnant woman going to give birth who tested postitive, she is registered as someone who is in hospital with Covid, when she is actually in hospital to give birth but appears to have Covid without symptoms.

It looks like Javid is looking into this so that people admitted to hospital because of Covid are recorded rather than people who are in hospital for any other reason and happen to test positive are recorded as currently is the case.

The current pool for testing positive within 28 days is about 540,000 people. If any of these people die they will be recorded as a Covid death regardless of the actual reason, but it will give those who think lockdowns should last forever ammunition to suggest the vaccine doesn't work or that we need to move backwards not forwards.

As I posted IMO its not too much to ask whilst we're staying there, she did pass comment with regards things changing next Monday that maybe wearing of a mask is down to the individual, if I'm honest the wife has reminded me a few times when we left our room or after a meal to put my mask on.

Yes by all means as the rules currently exist you are right to do so, next Monday however, all bets are off.

Yes let's hope so, some may still feel wearing a mask is the correct thing to do with regards their personal opinion their choice and no one should question it.

I think you will find that it is those who will continue to wear masks being the one having a go at those who won't, not the other way round.

I'm not sure how much protection a £2 rag from B&Ms provides but I would believe it isn't much better than Rahic's back 4 and goalkeeper from 2018/19.

That's exactly what will happen. The marginalisation of those who don't want or can't have the vaccine from the rest of society. A medicalised form of facism is very much here and upon us. Forget having your civil liberties back. This system is here to stay - there may be some brief respite over the next few weeks, of a fashion, but then we'll be back into lockdown and the government PR machine will be preaching about the need to sacrifice Christmas - though they won't actually follow the rules themselves.

The deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID test has been found to under record COVID deaths. This is mainly due to the significant number of COVID deaths after the 28 days, which has exceeded those within 28 days incorrectly attributed to COVID.

There are many different ways of recording COVID and a multitude of methodologies used in arriving at such a figure.

The calculation is kept under constant review and various adjustments have been considered, but consideration also has to be given to the ease or difficulty in collecting the data.

So, for the time being at least, we are continuing to use the deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID test, even though it may slightly under record the actual numbers; it still provides a good day by day, week by week, comparison.

As a footnote, due to the vaccinations and better treatments, the numbers of COVID deaths beyond 28 days seems to be decreasing, so the current figure used is probably getting closer to the 'real' figure.

We will never have a 'real' figure of course, as no methodolgy can be 100% accurate and, for example, how do you treat deaths as a result of multiple causes (which may include COVID).

Its hyperbole, lacking in data and missing a number of significant points.

Case rates aren't 'soaring stratospherically' and again, this is a virus that will come in waves, as every other respiratory virus does. What matters is how sick people are getting. And I assume that the same people predicting 100,000 daily cases are the same people who predicated similar previously, before the vaccine rollout and were proven to be ridiculously wide of the mark even then? And the number of patients currently hospitalised with Covid is 2,731, across a total of 1257 UK hospitals. Less than 2 per hospital as an average. Of course the NHS is stretched - its the inevitable result of shutting down healthcare for non-covid health matters for months on end. Of massively restricting the services available through local health care centres and funnelling everything through A&E - I've had 2 examples in the last 6 months alone of medical issues that needed basic healthcare but because my local clinic was 'closed for appointments due to covid' we had to go to A&E. Its madness!

Its interesting that you choose to put trust in this medical professionals opinion, but any medical professionals who support the easing of lockdown or who question the safety of the vaccine are cranks.

This is my experience as well, been waiting 3 months for a minor dentist appointment "because of covid"....oh, the dental tech is manning the ICU wards now is she? :joy:

But in a more general point is that the writer of that article is right. The NHS is busy, the people who work in some of the areas will be under massive pressure and it will be tough. My viewpoint in it though is largely - in the middle of a pandemic, with an 18 month backlog and a less than ideal starting point......isn't that exactly what you'd expect? Isn't it right up there with the Pope being Catholic?

Absolving people of the responsibility to isolate and getting local practices working as normal so that everything isn't funneled through A&E should help but long term the NHS will have to adapt to reflect the new illness. There's no other option.

Indeed. I can absolutely believe that the NHS is stretched - but the data shows that it ISN'T being stretched as a result of COVID treatment needed in hospital. Its being stretched because of the backlog of non-covid treatments that need working through and the throttling back of medical services in other settings. Its consequence more of the lockdown approach, than current impacts of COVID. Keeping the public and our freedoms locked down, to protect the NHS, isn't the way to go and isn't viable. The NHS exists to protect the public, not the other way around. If it needs more resources, then more resources need to be provided. The NHS has been mismanaged and pillaged for years by this government.

The NHS doesn’t have the capability to adapt, as we’ve seen by the ridiculous amount of time we’ve spent in lockdown.

Well then its not fit for purpose.

@Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam 's way of putting it is spot on - "The NHS exists to protect the public, not the other way around" and I'm saying that as someone who has two children working in the NHS.

Spot on. And my comments aren't a criticism of anyone working on the front lines of the NHS - quite the opposite. They need to be supported to provide quality healthcare for all. And if the government genuinely gave a shit about public health, they'd have done so long before now.

Scotland's new rules "Level 0" have been announced so anyone planning to head to Scotland will have to continue to wear masks.

    Also

Eight people from four households can meet indoors, with 10 people from four households able to meet in an indoor public place such as a pub,

Fifteen people from 15 households will be able to meet outdoors,

Hospitality businesses will be able to open until midnight, with soft play centres in areas moving from Level 2 also able to open,

Stadiums can admit 2,000 seated patrons and 1,000 standing,

Indoor events will be limited to 400 people.

This is now the normal in Scotland. 15 people from 15 households will be able to meet outdoors, 8 people from 4 households indoors. Numbers picked out of the hat.

The Scottish football season will be 2k fans at Rangers and Celtic, lower league sides under these rules can have a few more as they have standing areas. Nicola still going power mad.

Some may say we have been far too loose and free but Nicola's numbers are just taken out of a bingo machine with no basis what so ever.

We can certainly agree on that. I believe we spend less per capita on healthcare than any other western European country. That needs to change, but that's highly unlikely under this governing party.

Lockdown was a necessity before we had the vaccines, otherwise we'd probably have had deaths in the millions. It's inevitably had a deleterious impact on other healthcare treatments. I just can't see how removing mask wearing in indoor public spaces, including hospitals, is going to do anything but make it worse. Why make it even harder for the NHS to cope when it is already struggling to address backlogs at a time of rapidly escalating Covid cases? It's adding insult to injury to already exhausted and demoralised staff.

I understand that social distancing is killing many businesses. I can appreciate the argument for removing that now, even if I would prefer to wait until the vaccine rollout is completed. But removing mask-wearing at the same time is just bonkers. Mask wearing isn't hitting businesses and it's a minor inconvenience in the context of a still-raging world pandemic. Removing it now is a purely a political move to please the libertarians - but it's actually alienating at least as many as it's pleasing.

I think your ID and vaccination reference number should be printed on your face mask and you must be made to wear it at all times … although this will only be a temporary measure until these jokers can con you into getting it tattooed onto your forehead.
