New Manager - Welcome Derek Adams

No, “Advising” is a million miles away from Management. It’s perfectly reasonably for him to have in his contract he’s free to earn monies giving advice. We just don’t know, but it’s not as far fetched as you can imagine.

He was really pleasant to me yesterday. I like him, just a tad moody?

 

It’s just a T&A filler which to be fair gets people talking about City. I can go back to the old T&A days under Don Aldred and David Markham when there was literally nothing about City all summer apart from the league cup draw, the fixtures coming out and maybe a couple of signings and it was just a couple in those days, not like the wholesale revamp of the squad which we seem to get every year now.

 

If it's Adams & if it's someone else in a job at present
Heckingbottom / Flynn then who ever is to become his no2 or member of coaching staff have had a hand in the retained list on behalf of the new Manager
That way no rules are broken as long as he or she is not employed with another club

No approach made yet. So if he is doing our retained list, he isn't doing it legally.

I'm not sure that article makes any difference if a deal has been done which it must have if it is Adams, the more and more I read of it being Adams the less I understand why Morecombe would agree to any deal whilst they still have sight of being in League one next season.
But we know football is hardly as clean as a whistle, as we've witnessed over the years, brown envelopes, players & managers being tapped up by other clubs.

that article doesn't categorically rule out an approach. it merely says "though it’s believed no approach has been made.", very telling Adams himself doesn't straight up deny it.

 

to me I think he knows it would be a massive challenge staying in league one. that article suggests his best players are off elsewhere and the risk of getting sacked (like at plymouth, got promoted then sacked before the club got relegated with us.) here at city, he knows when we go up we still will having pulling power and a competitive budget.

 

Doesn't this comment also apply to the manager :

I'm sure he does realise the massive challenge league one would bring to little old Morecombe, I just hope he realise's the challenge of managing Bradford City brings.

 

Just listened to the radio interview with the Morecambe co-chairman Rod Taylor and here's what was said...

Q - You mentioned Derek there, there's been some talk about your manager this week. I suppose it's like a player isn't it? When they have success and do a good job they will be talked about elsewhere. Links with Bradford City's managerial vacancy, is that par for the course and how important is Derek Adams to Morecambe football club regardless of what happens in this next two or hopefully three games?

A - He's done a great job, brought in some experienced players, he's well disciplined, the boy's working hard. You're always going to get speculation, whatever level of football you look at, you're always going to get speculation. As far as I'm concerned, that's what it is right now, that's what it is. So, you just deal with it, you get on with it. I've no doubt at all that all these distractions that are around might [slight pause] you know distract players or the manager or us, it's just put to one side, you have to put these things to one side and get on with your job because people will speculate, newspapers will speculate, local radio stations, whoever it may be they will speculate week in week out because that's what gets people listening and reading papers and social media it's par for the course.

Q - So it's just tunnel vision, focus on the job in hand?

A - Absolutey, there's no shadow of a doubt in my mind that he's focusing on the job in hand, no doubt at all.

To stop the speculation his parting comment maybe should have been, of course Derek is focused on the job in hand he's going nowhere, hardly convincing Mr Chairman.

He's going nowhere just the same as James Vaughan wasn't at the start of last season,
“You can fool some of the fans all of the time, and all of the fans some of the time, but you can not fool all of the fans all of the time.”

 

Yeah, the interviewer didn't ask a direct question and he didn't get a direct answer. If there was nothing in it then it's really simple to unequivocaly shut down any discussion but he's skirted it and done the politicians trick of answering a different question to the one that was asked.
