T&S..... sacked

In fairness, I'm not sure you can lay all of the blame for Grimsbys position on Hurst.

 

I'm not laying all the blame on Hurst for Grimsby's demise. However, the fact remains after a few months in charge they are actually lower in the table than when he took over, rock bottom now of the football league, so forgive me if I think he has done a poor job there.

 

We’ll never know how Hurst would have done, nor does it matter. However most Grimsby fans on their forum blame Holloway and their owner. The fact they were trying to get the season called off before it started is telling, Hurst had a far worse team than T & S.

But who really cares we didn’t get Hurst it’s not like he’s Klopp.

 

Grimsby fans are right, the damage was done before Hurst rocked up in the same way that the odds have always been against us making the play offs because of what happened before T&S took over. People slagging them off would do well to remember that.

 

Totally right Petrov, we should all just get behind our two young coaches - they deserve it for what they have achieved to date. Yes they have made mistakes (who doesn't?) and they need to progress our style of play but with a good summer we should be in a stronger position. None of us can truly predict how things will go next season as there are no guarantees in football but T&S warrant our full support to do the best job they can

 

We go into many games now expecting a result not a defeat, I think they’ve lost a bit of sight on what is actually their best 11, but overall what they are achieving is still outstanding when you look at where we were (looking down) and where we are now (looking up).

 

FYI sand is a really good bearing strata.

My view is the same as it was 2 months ago - decide in the summer. But it needs a proper, cold hard decision. Not an emotional one based on 'they saved us from relegation'. Its a very simple question - are they capable of getting this club into the top 3 next season.

My view right now, is 'no'.

 

Its not about emotion, or knee jerk reactions here. Most 'sack the manager' discussions are heated and passionate. That's not the case here. I don't think anyone is suggesting T&S should be run out of town. They've done exactly what we wanted in steadying a sinking ship and making sure we stayed up. They absolutely have a role to play, but it may be best for all concerned that they go back to their academy roles and apply their experience from this gig, developing as possible options for the first team role further down the line. Theres no ill feeling here, just a genuine examination of whether they're good enough/ready to take this club up next season.

I don't think they are.

We could choose to develop and invest in them for the long term and accept that theyd probably take us to a mid table finish next season and them who knows, the season after. But I don't think we can afford to do that.

 

Derek Adams would be my first choice if T&S took a step back. Promotion out of this league with Plymouth, doing a wonderful job at Morecambe, who currently sit one point off autos as results stand today

That might be a case of 'tough shit' for whoever we have lined up there.

First and foremost, this squad needs a lot of work. But I see too many issues in terms of T&S approach in terms of what we need for next season. The first team has to come first

 

Another performance and result that draws too many parallels with Bowyer and last season.

You will not achieve automatic promotion playing cautious, scared and boring football at any level. There is also no way fans will tolerate going a goal down before throwing caution to the wind in successive must win games.

Everything we do going forwards is made up on the spot, the football is dire, the players can't pass and now we're back to having a leaky defence.

If we take away the sentiment and good will that T&S have saved us from relegation, I'm not seeing anything that suggests that they will get us playing like a promotion chasing side needs to.

People need to remember that you can't have the same approach to a promotion push as you would a relegation battle. T&S have failed to adapt their approach in what was a free hit for them to get in the playoffs. If they won't change and have a go when there's little pressure on them to achieve, what makes people think they'll do it when the crowds are back in and the pressure is also on from above to achieve a top 3 finish?
