You sold less season tickets though so for home games even with some of those previous ST holders maybe buying ifollow on the day you will be making less. That's before follows cut and the other matchday income

Agree, but there's £350m from Brexit that is to be spent on the NHS, right? I mean they said so on a bus. It must be true.
*Edit. Posted before I saw BigRods bus post.

You make some good points to be fair but it just somehow feels wrong that my tax contribution is most likely being upped so multi millionaires like Rupp can save a few quid.

Any rise for the NHS should be restricted to care workers, nurses, doctors and front line admin staff.

My wife's friend is very high up at nhs England and got a £15,000 rise when the nurses got their big rise a couple of years ago because it was applied across the board. As a result even simon Stevens got a huge rise.

Even if this parsimonious Government will not give a % based pay rise, then the very least they could do is to give all NHS staff a ‘one off’ Covid-19 Bonus payment. Say a flat £1,000 per person irrespective of grade/job etc.
According to the NHS own website then the NHS, has 1,169,045 FTE in July 2020. This is 6.4% (69,901) more than in July 2019. Given that a number work part time I assume the figure equates to the 1,319,932 Headcount in July 2020. https://digital.nhs.uk/data-and-information/publications/statistical/nhs-workforce-statistics/july-2020

So going back to the bus and the figures which helped some people of £350000000 then it is the equivalent of about 3 days money to the EU. Following Brexit, then surely this Government could recognise and reward NHS staff.

    Here it is again!

I guess that if the system allows organisations to ‘Furlough’ staff, and if is within the rules, then it really doesn’t matter what we think of the ethics. The EFL and the FA are the governing bodies, they could also express a view. If one club does it, then others could well follow.

Why should NHS workers in more senior positions be exempt?

And people who have worked 18 hour days behind the scenes to make sure the vaccination programme is a success, ensuring the right supply in the right place? Just as valuable to all of us surely?

To contrast. HMRC staff have just voted for and accepted a 13% pay rise over 3 years.

which is spread over a number of years and also with completely new contracts and changes to terms and conditions. It also includes changing loads of different contracts etc into one and is an average rather than for everyone

yer I said it was over 3 years already. Dunno why you missed that bit. Anyway I am sure HMRC staff are far more worthy of receiving a 13% pay rise whilst NHS staff get offered a1% pay rise. Can you explain why?

In terms of the furlough for City.....no....it shouldn't be used for the standard quiet period due to seasonal nature of football.

I don't think that's a bad idea if I'm honest although some will actually be more deserving of it than others. My daughter is a midwife and her department has been no more busy than usual obviously.

What's the total cost of that? One off payment of ~£1.5bn in total? Is my maths right? Even ignoring the bus which was both a disingenuous claim and also already been spent many times over that's still a chunky sum though.

You can be damn sure that if they offered a grand bonus the unions and Kier would say it wasn't enough anyway.

have you actually looked at the complexities involved in the HMRC deal, as I said it isn’t a simple pay deal. It is an end product of the sorting out of combining a large number of different contracts and T&cs that date back to before HMRC was one department.
