The NHS are obviously front line workers and rightly should be the first for the vaccine, if we want to get our children back to school teachers should also fall into that category IMO.

This is the same country that is enriching uranium (for peaceful reasons were told) the same country that in the past have openly stated Israel should be wiped of the face of the earth, and they think this vaccine makes people homosexuals.

Religious extremists of all persuasions are a menace to the world. Some of the evangelical Christians that support Trump are every bit as loopy as this, not to mention the hard-line Orthodox Jewish Zionists who are so influential in Israel. They all believe unscientific nonsense theories based on blind faith and extreme interpretations of their holy books which they then use to persecute and discriminate against those they don't agree with. I don't care if they're Muslim, Christian, Jewish or Sun worshippers. A plague on all their houses.

There is more risk of spread via supermarkets so surely those workers should be above teachers?

I wouldn't argue with that suggestion I just thought teachers would be in closer contact with pupils on a daily basis than supermarket employees.

    So not safe then?

Bottom line is when you haven’t tested all age groups how do you know.

Back in November it was the students and secondary kids spreading said the government scientists. What’s changed? Nothing!!

Also understand it’s not just kids not going back in the UK. It’s mainly across the world

There are lots of other states like Florida that have most things open to certain capacity limits so it could be argued it is representative. Here are current limits in Nevada that have been in place since November:
    • Retail – max 50% capacity indoors
    • Casinos (including bar tops) – max 25% capacity indoors
    • Indoor Venues (Galleries, Movie Theaters, Bowling Alleys & Arcades) – max 25% capacity indoors
    • Outdoor Venues (Galleries, Zoos, Mini Golf, Amusement Parks, Climbing Walls)
    • Gyms & Fitness Centers – max 25% capacity indoors
    • Personal Care Services (nail and hair salons, tattoo parlors) – max 25% capacity indoors
    • Massage Therapy Studios – max 25% capacity indoors
Numerous NFL clubs have allowed modest crowds throughout this autumn and winter and they don't seem to have caused any outbreaks/problems that I can find.

There are only bits of the USA in a lockdown like the UK. Despite that, the USA seems slightly ahead of the UK for Covid falling away quickly in 2021 so far.

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/states-reopen-map-coronavirus.html

In other good news, there have been lots of news reports suggesting India has reached herd immunity. India is now unlocked apart from mask and spacing restrictions and they are now being ignored in many areas because Covid has fallen away so much. There were only 81 Covid deaths reported yesterday from a population of 1.4bn. It's business as normal in India and its economy is booming.

Your figures could be a bit more comprehensive to get the full picture. Nevada new cases down 72% since Dec 9th peak. Covid patients in hospital down just over 50% since Dec 14th peak. Deaths are following those figures down and have fallen about 1/4 since Jan 14th peak. Similar to here really, but with restricted customer numbers for everything rather than lockdown.

(Code for Nevada is NV. You might need to adust the date slider.)

Sorry, Aleman, but I'd question this idea completely.

    https://eu.usatoday.com/storytelling/coronavirus-reopening-america-map/

There are only two States that have completely lifted Coronavirus restrictions, Florida and Missouri - and Missouri has done so on a technicality, letting local governments determine the nature of restrictions after letting the state-wide order lapse.

Florida are the ONLY state that, from September, have legally barred local emergency rulings that might prevent a business opening - businesses only close at their own discretion. There is no requirement for mask wearing, and they have made it very difficult for the limiting of capacity at indoor venues - local authorities cannot force restaurants to operate at below 50% capacity, for example, and they need to make a special case focussed on economic impact for forcing anyone to operate below 100% capacity.

Florida is a massive outlier, and not at all like the other states - though you're right in that not all states are super strict, and there are plenty still allowing some kinds of crowds at sporting venues. Other than that, Florida is a really unusual example of how the US is handling Covid.

And I ask you what if these mutations are a regular occurance are you suggesting we live out the rest of our natural lives in lockdown?

it would all depends on the number of deaths and serious illness. If the numbers are similar to Dec/Jan due to a mutation I would say some sort of lockdown would be needed again. Or are you suggesting just to let those numbers keep rising? I suppose with no lockdown people’s natural lives will be a lot shorter

Even if teachers are vaccinated that doesn’t stop kids spreading it to each other at school then taking it home to older relatives.

doesn’t stop the teachers getting it and spreading it to their homes either.

If teachers are being tested twice weekly I’m not sure what is gained by insisting on vaccinating them all
