Match Thread Home v Barrow (Sat 30th Jan @ 3pm)

Win that game in hand and we are 8 points off 2nd. Its a laughable league and absolutely criminal we were let to get into the position we were in november

 

To put that amount of intensity into three games over seven days should not be underestimated. Once again, the focus and fitness in the last 15 minutes was impressive. Eight games unbeaten. Any of you stattos out there, when was the last time we went on a run of five wins and three draws?

 

For the more faint minded amongst us, you really must keep these thoughts to yourself!!

 

I said this would be a tough game and I was right.
Rather than us look average I think we played a very strong physical team who really made us work hard for the win.
I thought we went toe-to-toe with their front two who tried to bully us. Sometimes we need to do the ugly things and come down to the same level as the opposition. We did that in the main today.

 

I think we need to be realistic as well. 10 of the starting 11 are from the McCall era. Not all performances are going to excel, on the front foot or dominate throughout the game.

Now, this group of players, irrespective of the McCall era, has limitations. They in the main are fourth division footballers. So we are going to get mixed performances and inevitably, mixed results.

I feel we need to give this group of players some credits for their turnaround (you could argue some criticism for previous capitulations) and when individuals have quieter or off days, so be it. We are a lower fourth division team...

 

It’s going to be a tough ask but you should aim high

 

He was a handful, nothing more. We gave them their best chances in the first half and they did nothing in the second.

 

Getting points on the board now which is good to see. At least 20 points from safety. And I'm a lot more relaxed now than i was a few months ago. Best January window in years.

Sparks doing a good job. If he sacked someone sooner. Onwards and upwards.

 

Hope your right, lots of matches to play in a short time, squad depth will play a large part to the outcome of this season and some clubs might struggle , lets hope we are not one of them. I have not felt as optomistic about city's prospects in a long time.
Still lots to be done , but we are heading in the right direction. Well done to all at the club.

2nd time watching us this season and I conclude
AOC needs dropping.
FCD is some prospect.
GE is no better than when he was here before.
SH is a better keeper than ROD.

 

So right. Being a City fan over the last couple of years has almost felt like an act of masochism. It's been great to see us playing consistently well for the first time in a long time. To watch Danny Rowe's 'shoot on sight' attitude has been a sheer joy to watch.

 

Blimey, that's some commute!

 

The next 7 games will define our season as far as the playoffs go. 6 of the next 7 are against teams above us and is a great chance to catch the pack. The other is against an in form scunny.

Scunthorpe are above us so that's 7 . lets hope we are above some of them come the end or feb.

 

Two of those games were long away journeys 3 days apart as well. I'm not surprised we were a little under par today, against a Barrow side that hadn't played since the 16th January.

 

Agree with you on AOC. I'd have Canavan alongside Paudie like a shot. As well as being a really solid and experienced player in his own right, I think he'd give Finn some great footballing education. Disagree on Evans. He had a difficult start back with us through injuries and postponements, but his performance and two goals at Southend show he still has a lot of ability - and desire. Thought he was solid today. Agree re Sam Hornby.
