Football support has an inelastic demand. If you increase the price, yes the support will fall to a degree but the revenue will increase even further.

But ultimately, it's not about the headline price - it's about affordability.

Burnley operates a pay monthly scheme to spread payments. So you get people to sign up on 1st March and by the 1st August, you've got 6 months cash in the bank.

Charge £25 a month and it's very affordable (83p a day. Less than a Snickers at a petrol station) - perceived as easier to pay than £150 in a lump sum. At a stoke, you've doubled your season ticket income.

Also getting people on direct debit results in less churn and it's an easier way to ratchet prices gradually by CPI+

When Sky came out, people paid £100 per annum for TV licenses and people thought the TV licence was expensive. Now people pay over £1k a year on Sky by paying monthly. The direct debit goes up every year 2 weeks before the football season starts.

So it's never just about price and always more about affordability. It's why people buy new cars on PCP finance.

Burnley collects over 100% of their revenue (defaulters lose access and pay a reinstatement fee which more than covers the bad debt)

Very simple to introduce with a mobile phone scanning the ticket QR code. The software is a couple of grand and Android phones £50-100 would be needed at turnstiles to validate the season tickets.

I’ll renew because the vaccine will hopefully allow normal numbers to return. The amount of fans coming back could depend on who we sign and how we finish the season. Give us hope and I can see similar numbers to this season.

I think the numbers will be devastatingly low, maybe just 3/4000.

I'm a 25 yearer and I'm more than happy for the club to bring an end to them. We've had our monies worth so for me I think I agree with @BingleyBantam@BingleyBantam.

You're missing one important point from your scenario.

    Product.

It's why Man City can charge £500 and we charge £150.

Our declining sales have correlated with our drop in performances, recruitment and league position.

People still want to be entertained however cheap they are

You know what, if the club approached me and said we can't afford it, will you give it up i would happily do so, but I object strongly to being told we are a drain on the club when over the last 20 years we've actually paid a lot more for our football than a standard season ticket holder.

At the risk of sounding selfish i do think those who bought this year should have the option to purchase at the same price next season and also without having to deal with a silly march deadline either. The offer should continue to the start of the season

I don't disagree with that, the wording was a nonsense, I just agreed with the overall point.

At present time and the way the government are handling this pandemic
The public crossing tiers & spreading the virus
I certainly will not be in a rush to renew my season ticket

On the other hand the deal wasn’t with the same company as run City today.

Yes, we all know that's true in a strictly legal/commercial sense. But Bradford City is still Bradford City - playing in the same ground, in the same colours, watched by the same fan base. You can't celebrate the historic achievements of the club on the one hand and then say it's a different entity on the other.
As others have said, the 25 year tickets now cost the club only £25 discount per fan per season. It's trivial in the scheme of things - nothing like the big 'drain' that some like to portray it as.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm paying £225 per season for my ST - ie £125 plus the £100 per season I've already paid out in the initial lump sum. It would be a massive kick in the teeth to loyal supporters to end the scheme five years early. I think the club know that and won't do it.

Not to mention additional season tickets that have been sold on the back of the 25 year deals - kids, friends etc.....who’ve also come along.
Shaft the 25 yearers and potentially lose those who come along with.
That aside, not sure now is the time to be increasing season ticket prices - if and when we see a positive turn on the pitch then they should capitalise with incremental increases.

Going back to the main topic, then yes I will renew, if the price remains about the same. With the salary cap in place and the club having spent far more the previous season and as I understand it had a potential budget for the current season which was in excess of £1.5 million, then I expect to pay about the same. In the scale of things, with my outgoings decreasing, I am in the fortunate position that I can afford it without any problem.

How will be vaccine hopefully allow normal numbers to return?

You do understand that having a vaccine doesn't stop transmission?

So unless 8-14k or whatever have all had then vaccine then fine but I doubt that will be the case.

Also how long does the vaccine last for?

Pinning your hopes on a vaccine is silly for next season.

    I have a Car on a PCP.
Since the start of Coronavirus my use of it has dropped by around two thirds, yet I am still paying the same monthly figure.
The price for a replacement vehicle has actually increased since I signed the contract, so if/when I replace it will actually cost more!
Apparently, ‘BMW's 2018 earnings before interest and taxes fell to 9.12 billion euros (7.8 billion pounds), just ahead of the 8.94 billion euros forecast by analysts in a poll’.
Forget millions we are talking billions here!
    So should BMW pay?
We are getting something, which is the i-follow package.
Additionally we get hours of masochistic pleasure from analysing the developments within the club!
All this for a whole season, for about a third of what I pay for a car in a month!

No, because I didn't pay by credit card. I paid by cheque. Remember them?
I borrowed the money from my parents and paid it back by standing order over two years.

Me too, paid by cheque so lost the lot. In actual fact, the only people who are a "mill stone" are those who DID get their money back so are benefitting from something they never lost out on.
