I think there are some on here, who live in a strange parallel universe, which includes a time warp function, that means we always have to revisit former players. I think you may also have missed it. ;)

My early prediction was that Hurst would bring in his first signing by Friday 8th.

However given that our good form has slowed down the hunt for a permanent manager, and indeed we've now missed out on Hurst, I wouldn't be surprised if our first foray into the January market has also been put back a little bit.

I think at this point, unless we're already close to bringing in a loan player, we should put just as much effort into offloading Guthrie, Clayton and DMH as we should trying to bring someone in. Yes, all three would need replacing given our squad is wafer thin and bulked out by 18 year olds, but I think if we're being realistic then there isn't an immediate rush to bring in bodies.

Last year we made the rather dozy decision to allow Vaughan and Doyle to leave at the last minute; this year we have a full month with the full understanding we need attacking players who can make a difference.

Clearly none of Guthrie, Clayton or DMH have the slightest hope of making a difference.

We didn’t miss out on Hurst he wasn’t successful in-his application. Our upturn in form means we don’t need to recruit in panic but instead to make sure anyone coming in is right not just for this window but for next season as well.

He wasn't successful in his application because we panicked and worried ourselves into making yet another easy appointment. We were so scared of losing a short run of form that we appointed our U18 coaches as interim managers.

Let's not beat around the bush, here - if we were waiting to appoint someone who was right not just for January but for the long haul, someone's going to have to come up with some more quality applicants.

    Fast.

Otherwise, we've backed ourselves into a corner, and our only hope is that Trueman and Sellars continue to possess the Midas touch.

Sparks did the right thing. It would appear that not one of the out of work managers he interviewed impressed enough to appoint, so fair play for not appointing someone for the sake of it, obviously the run under Trueman & Sellars made that decision easier for now.

I still think they have targeted one or two managers currently employed by other clubs, perhaps he has not given up on that yet.

Missed out on Hurst?, no we didnt

There does come a point though where you have to put the big boys pants on and make a permanent decision. This going week by week doesn't help in the long term.

We only 'missed out on Hurst' if you believe he would have been a good choice. I'm far from convinced of that and so, it seems, were the club.

I will say even though I would have rather seen Hurst come in its a real tricky situation. What happens if Hurst didn't get the same results as T&S did? What happens now if we end up going back to losing ways after keeping T&S on? All I will say is I am glad the club is taking a risk. These guys have only managed 5 games yet got 11 points! Could be a Diamond in the Sellar...
