Definitely wont be Hurst, he would here now if it was to be him. Why would we have to pay compensation for an out of work manager. If there is a clause, it would affect Hurst not us, and Hurst would not be daft enough to risk losing a gig for the sake of a months gardening leave pay from an employer he left 12 months ago

 

All managers are interim what’s the average stay of a manager. These two know what’s required and we have others doing the looking

 

Wow this is so poor. What’s the point in communicating something that hasn’t changed. I saw this on some Instagram page and I thought it was clickbait. So they’ve still got the job they’ve been given, until something changes? What this shouts to me, is that the targets we identified, are now no longer viable.

And what’s this “relatively new recruitment team”? What’s this? Why hasn’t this been announced?
Ryan has cocked this all up in my opinion, and undone the decent rep he was earning himself.

Good luck getting players in next week. The whole farce around giving McCall an extended contract, was to show incoming players we had a long term manager. Now we’ve just announced we’ve got two in charge until something else comes along.

I would say they have gone from being caretakers on a match by match basis to interim which will cover a much longer period. They will have been in discussions with Turnbull over transfers and if we have a reasonable run of results in the next month or two then they will probably get a 2 year deal. If it goes wrong, though I can’t see it going to the horror show of McCall, then they will revert to the academy rather than sacked as Collins was.

Exactly. I disagreed when people were saying give it to them until the summer and this is even worse. If Ryan thinks they are good enough, give them a proper contract. He hasn't done that, he's basically just changed the wording to make it sound like something has changed when it hasn't at all.

 

Presumably this is a kind of secondment to the first team role. The statement says the club is 'ensuring their futures are secure'. That reads to me that they retain their substantive positions as youth team coaches and would revert to those roles if the first team results dip and the club decides to appoint a manager from outside.

 

Its a completely muddled communication. Its not about whether they should be given the role or not, its about the manner of the messaging.

They could have stated that the manager decision is being postponed until the summer, with Trueman and Sellers remaining in charge until that decision. Made clear that it would provide the opportunity for them to demonstrate their credentials over the longer term, allow the club to hopefully improve its position and tap into a better and wider pool of options.

Its a poorly constructed way of going about things.

 

Thats how I see it too, but thats far from offering any position of stability or clarity for anyone involved. It heightens the pressure for every single game. Its poorly handled.

 

Just appoint them until the end of the season ! By definition caretaker and interim are exactly the same thing !!!

 

You are prob right. He has been considered for other roles months ago too, just trying to consider other possibilities.

Sparks is rewarding their work this way. He doesn’t want them on the scrapheap if things don’t work out. He wants them to have the safety net of returning to the academy - that’s sensible.

That’s right it’s wording only if these two carry on taking us forward ( and I don’t mean win every game) the gig will be theirs and that is a great incentive. If it doesn’t work out they can go back to the job they were doing so well and we have more time to find a new name

I agree. I think Trueman and Sellars will be very happy with this arrangement. If all goes well they will be appointed long term to the first team role. If it doesn't they have lost nothing and keep their youth team roles.
