I think it has been explained in very clear terms that:
    • Vaughan wanted away.
    • We apparently wanted to retain him.
    • Vaughan rebuffed attempts to engage him.
    • Tranmere may have offered another player (I suspect we were not interested in him).
    • Nowhere at all, is there any discussion in respect of Tranmere putting in a cash bid.
    • Vaughan and City agreed to terminate the contract by mutual agreement.
    • As a free agent, Vaughan signed a contract with Tranmere.
    • No fee/compensation was paid, as Vaughan was a free agent.

Yes! we got nothing but it is a distinct possibility that the contract cancellation was a MUTUAL agreement, ie a simple tear up(in writing of course). At the moment, we can all assume what we want but at the end of the day, all of us know nothing.

Problem is we cannot use the full amount of his wages the amount over the average wage will be lost from the budget.

Seen him a couple times for AFC Hornchurch, big unit, deceptively quick (by non league standards) seems to like a physical challenge, BUT needs about six chances to convert

In fairness, I earlier said that I would be happy if we brought on 2-3 players from non league to kick on with.

Payne in 2 seasons got 68 goals in 130 league games with Hornchurch and Dover.

With those stats, simply at face value, it shows the real dilemma dipping into the non league market..

    Ain't that easy, is it?

So Bowyer decides to sign him and we give him a 3 year contract.

Now you decide to throw his clubs in our face?

Fact is for us he was our leading goalscorer....He was our Captain....He was our best player (alone with Wood).

In the cold light of day we have lost our top striker to a promotion rival (again)
Whatever the reason he was not happy at the club we must accept some responsibility for that
he was happy initially to sign a 3 year deal but for some reason which none of us know the wheels fell off and he wanted away. Whether we paid for the priveledge of our generosity again we will never know
What we do know is we are left with a four man forward line that will struggle to score 20 goals between them and desperately needs a boost
This is probably Stuart's sternest test as a manager to pick the club up by its bootlaces and bring in new faces the same calibre if not better than Vaughan that won't be easy whether he is up to it or not and whether he will get backing backing from above remains to be seen without a team of scouts it's certainly a difficult task its vital we get off to a good start or it could quite easily all fall round our ears with no coming back
Hopefully there are at least two worse teams in L2 next season our activity in the transfer market has yet again squashed our promotion aspirations for another season
Just another day being a City Fan

If mr Vaughan , does not want to be here then good riddance. Times are hard for football clubs at this time and wont get any easier for the forseable future.
We need players at the club that want to be here , not sulky babies that cant have there own way.
Dont forget the club have had little or no income for months , and are now having to pay the players wages £200,000 per month at a rough guess on top of the ground rent -rates etc. Where do people think this magic money is coming from to sign all the required superstars. I am not happy at the situation , but am willing to accept what it is at this present time.

    Tin hat time.

I've thought about it a bit now. Did we get money from Tranmere Rovers? From what was said I doubt it.

Did we pay James Vaughan to leave? I don't know and I suspect most on here don't know either.

Have we someone else who's any good lined up? Almost certainly not.

Should we have stuck him in the reserves (yeah I know we don't have them these days) till he came round and realised which side his bread was buttered? Absolutely not.

In my view the ones who come out of it in a bad way are James Vaughan and Tranmere Rovers.

Sod the money. Yeah, I know we might not have much to spare but well done Stuart. Goodbye James.

    Precisely.

Which is why you can't judge a player off his highlights reel and why data is playing a leading role in recruitment for successful clubs at all levels.

Let's hope our tranmere home fixture is at a time when lots of fans are back in the ground.

Give him the warm welcome back he deserves :grinning:
