Looks like the club are looking to bring in new players on the basis of a salary cap at £1.5 million, which will be £1.2 million less than last seasons total budget, “You have two choices – you either do nothing for now or you work within the potential parameters of the salary cap,” according to Sparks.

So don’t expect a lot of major signings, as we will have some contracted players on substantial salaries, which will reduce the options.

I guess that if the club is going to spend less on salaries, then there is no need to consider putting up the price of the Season Tickets. Should help those on a tight budget.

    Exactly.

We need to all be on the same page here, at least for now.

It highlights that McCall thinks he is good enough to be a first team squad member and will be used to plug gaps - and the budget can be used to strengthen in other areas.

Haven't they heard that the EFL is about to implement a salary cap on clubs? ;)

If the salary cap comes in teams like Mansfield And Salford could be penalised because they have jumped the gun
if the salary cap comes in they could be in trouble

Well they were in the meeting yesterday and it's not stopping them..

All depends what you believe. If Ryan said Bradford City should wear the Leeds Utd badge on their shirt to celebrate them getting promoted you would find it acceptable.

Ha well this is the thing, the salary cap hasn't been implemented and it shouldn't stop clubs now doing business. The season is looking to start in August/September which will mean that pre season training will have to start at the end of this month.

Mansfield were at the meetings yesterday and have been at all the others. Getting a head start and being ready while we talk about 4 unknown youth players who we don't even know what positions they play.

Your probably right. It won’t make much difference anyway for the first season because as Ryan Sparks said there will be allowances for players already here. And I think much of our recruitment will be loans

    And so they should.
They obviously attend the EFL meetings and par take in discussions but quite frankly I think they are giving the football authority's the finger.

So you just gone back in what you said in a minute?

Mansfield and Salford plus others won't care about the salary cap and will just continue to do business until it's implemented then say we already made signings blah blah.

Also think already that it's highlighting Mansfield are going for it while we are struggling on all levels.

How do we know though? Because Ryans says?

We only know until the EFL announce it along with the rules.

I can't for the life of me understand why we would be deliberately putting ourselves at a disadvantage by working to a salary cap that most likely won't come in.

This fear of a points deduction is somewhat strange given that, as Fordy says, Mansfield were in yesterday's meeting and continue to sign players on presumably high wages to add to a squad of high earners. Plus, the allowances to be made for players under contract before the cap came in to effect, if at all.

It stinks of an excuse to do things on the cheap.

This to me is what Sparks ha been buttering us up for in the press in these last few weeks. The squad, as you said with last seasons already contracted players is going to be threadbare. We will not see an influx of signings and it may be a lot of loans hoping other clubs can keep us under budget.

It’s not all about spending money but we have blown years and years of top budgets, I can’t see how we will get it right with a tiny budget in comparison. Not with the current negotiators and minds we have behind our recruitment. A long season in prospect I fear

I think if we look at last seasons squad, then there were far too many players. It didn’t build for a cohesive unit and spread the budget far to far, on some mediocre players. Reducing the squad size makes sense. However we don’t have a clean sheet and McCall is stuck with some players I am sure he wouldn’t have signed even if he had a £2.7 million budget.

Agree completely, having the mindset of being proactive and making moves before the introduction of any salary cap (if it happens at all) would surely add to the argument that your business and any expenditure was in place prior to restrictions, so you cannot be penalised for what had already been spent. Mansfield have just been linked with Omar Bogle this morning. Might suggest they're thinking along similar lines. Wish we had a firm plan for once
