The government stopped doing interviews with GMB TV over 50 days ago and then stopped doing them with Channel 4 which highlights all you need to know about this weak government.

You're right, any tough questions then they don't like it. Recently Sam Coates, Hugo Guy and Beth Rigby were starting to ask them meaningful question which the government struggled to answer.

If there is a second wave, I guess we'll be adopting the standard Chinese approach to open and informative government. Second wave? What second wave?

The PM is gambling a lot, including his own reputation, on there not being a second wave. I hope for the country that his gamble pays off.

In the commons today Boris said only 6-8% has had this virus. My feeling is that they do want more to catch it then it will be like tough...

Just like currently no mention on how to get them 3m unemployed and counting back into work - tough!.

Vallance presented a graph in his part of the presentation which showed that about 5% of the population is carrying the Covid 19 antibodies which was a slight reduction on their earlier numbers. But yes, the PM dodged the question on the economy from the FT journo on what the impact might be. Looks like we'll have to wait for Sunak to report on how he's expecting to get the country back to work and what it might cost us all.

SAGE and the government need to get a grip on reality. The truth is social distancing was over weeks ago. Shops, supermarkets, take aways etc have been unable to maintain the 2m rule, it always has been closer to 1m or in the cases of the BLM protests, and some funerals and park gatherings I've seen, no distancing whatsoever. The official move to 1m will most likely have no effect whatsoever considering it's been the way of the country since this began.

look us on that graph. Anyone who thinks this government has gone a good job is deluded. And before you say “population density it was always going to be harder”, take a look at Japan on the graph. They are the 24th on the list in the world for population density. We are 32nd. No excuses

UK lacks testing and Trump is telling people not to get tested...Utter madness.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody. We've been behind the curve from the start of the pandemic. Ignoring the lessons from earlier exercises; shortages of PPE; slow to introduce social distancing; poor testing regimes; a 'world beating' track and trace system that had to be abandoned; delays in the introduction of quarantine; no testing at airports, the major point of entry into the UK. There have been a couple of success stories - building Nightingale hospitals and the initial furloughing and business protection schemes but nothing which has had much impact on the mortality rate itself. And yet at the first opportunity, we loosen the social distancing and increase the risk of further infections.

Looking at the graph, deaths continue and we have yet to flatten out the curve unlike some other countries. But we'll all be able to get down the boozer soon!

Your correct in various areas the 2m rule has been abused, they were only guidelines the government hoped the British public would use there common sense, Boris actually said that, maybe he needs to come into the real world.
Talking with friends and relations mainly older people with regards the reduction in distancing and more relaxed rules with pubs restaurants etc opening many are not in a rush to go out to either.
The vaccine will give the older end more confidence IMO, so you young uns need to dip your toes and get the all clear going forward.

The PM likes to refer to these things as 'guidelines' now because it transfers the responsibility to us when things go wrong. And that seemed to change when the theme of the message switched from the specific 'Stay Indoors' to the more nebulous 'Stay Alert'. But in one of the earlier press conferences when social distancing was first introduced, Hancock said that they were weren't just guidelines, they were 'instructions' (his word). It's just a bit of slight of hand from the PM to avoid taking responsibility.

And for me that;s why when social distancing was introduced it should have been back up the law, the police were getting different messages telling some to move on and others were given fines, then as easing of lock down happens it could then become advice or guild lines rather than law.
Which ever way this pandemic plays out the Prime Minister will have to accept the buck stops at his door, some experts the radio this morning saying it's too early to ease social distancing.

I think @bantam2708@bantam2708 realises it was tongue in cheek with regards the younger end dipping there toes, and the Lord Kitchener poster.

I think thats the right decision all over, the hospitality trade is going to need a couple weeks to make sure all this guidance is put into place and is made workable in reality. The worst thing would be trying to adapt all the guidance safely when everywhere is absolutely rammed.

I've read similar on here with regards us oldies I would hope its jest but if not I'd say it's the older end who are more prone to abiding by the social distancing guide lines let's hop the easing doesn't bring a second wave or numerous outbreaks on certain areas.
