It's already starting. This is what lockdown does.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/coronavirus-public-sector-pay-freeze-police-boris-johnson-rishi-sunak-a9511901.html

It will also lead to fewer dialysis machines, less cancer research, fewer expensive drugs for some conditions, few scanners, reduced staffing, etc. Lockdown kills thousands in time. We need to take some risks to get back to work - but monitoring carefully. Maybe we'll actually have some decent testing in place by the time it's done.

Does football playing generate much income? Most clubs make a loss, so we are left with the VAT on pay on the gate tickets and the pies & drinks

That's all long terms stuff. In the shirt term the NHS ain't gonna run out of money.

As Stork points out what are the short term tax benefits of rushing to open football back up anyway? Especially behind closed doors.

The tax on footballers pay and bonuses and the betting taxes on the games ain't paid in tiddlywinks. The TV/streaming companies and sponsors/advertisers won't pay up if there are no games. The ongoing damage of not playing hits season ticket sales, TV revenues, and players' wages for future years. Fewer players will be signed on lower wages next season if they don't provide a product for fans, tv and gambling companies. Further loss of revenues now means less money for future deals. All delays lead to less revenue, wages and tax now and in future.

That brightened up my afternoon. I loved the story of Paul Taylor trying to chin Rahic during the pre-season trip to Germany.

Absolutely inevitable that what's happening in Germany will be happening here within the next week
We simply weren't in a position to "ease" lockdown as he did on Sunday and an even bigger spike will occur here very very shortly the only saving grace is that the unused Nightingale centers are fully operational and can handle the sudden influx.
Up to Sunday I thought Doris was handling the situation as well as the next man could now am not sure his broadcast caused confusion and should have been backed up by a structured return to work Masks Gloves Sanitizer should have been made available to the public As well as a full understanding as to how offices should be equipped/maintained to try and stop the virus spreading
Time will tell but relaxing lockdown and failing to fully prepare for it will in my opinion lead to further problems

The thing is, nobody will ever be in a perfect position to release lockdown.

The more people go out the more infections will go up. Theres no way around it and we should expect it.

But we have to try, bit by bit, to see how far it can be pushed and what works. Otherwise we're all stuck inside indefinitely.

Only when there is a vaccine available will it be a "perfect time" to reduce lockdown
There is no way round it but measures can be put in place to minimize the risk bit by bit is the only way to go but measured and protected progress is what's needed and further educating people can only help

Vaccine might literally never come though so have to do something.

Feel that the first steps so far are minimising risk as much as possible while still making moves towards "normality". It will have a negative impact on infections though sadly.

    Agree
I just don't think the risks here been minimized fully enough
Educating people by means of TV adverts leaflets etc providing Masks Gloves Sanitizer or at least waiting till they were readily available would help reduce the inevitable next spike

People need to have a tiny bit of common sense though. We've had the "wash your hands" thing drilled into us for 2 months. Everyone knows what they need to do.

Whether they actually do it is another matter buts that will always be the case sadly

In these uncertain times most people will follow government advice once they realize the seriousness of the situation
Hand washing and social distancing is at the forefront of everyone's mind I agree and let's be fair not everyone you see is conforming
It needs to be spelt out without doubt how many people should be in offices guidelines need to be set re size of office relative to how many people can work there advice given on how and what products are available to make offices a safe place
This applies to other industries not just office workers clearly defined regulations in any work environment should be paramount before lockdown is eased further

All companies know they need to keep people 2m apart wherever possible, make other provisions where it cant be achieved and ensure good hygiene facilities are easily available.

I don't think there's much more to say than that.

I don't think it's for the government to micromanage every single industry and office space. People know.
