That's part of our beaurocracies DNA, I wouldn't have expected us to react in any other way. We've a record of being reactive as opposed to pro active, it's infuriating but the 'meetings about meetings' scenario has never been more apt. I wouldn't expect any political party of this country to be trusted to run a bath never mind the biggest employer in Europe, they'd first have to have a meeting about the social implications of running a bath.

I was in Germany in February, I dont remember the huge clamour to lock the world down. I just see a lot of usual suspects in the media looking to say I told you so.

In the perfect world you would test and trace. Suppose a bit like South Korea but we haven't the technology and do we want it as advanced as that?

So we need to concentrate on increased testing like Boris has said is the way out of this because we can test an from trace ourselves to a certain degree for now.

Having a enough testing equipments that people are morning mistaking hay fever for this virus. Enough testing equipment that home testing kits are available to buy and offices have them in their 1st aid kit.

Testing, testing, testing is required at this moment.

I work for a Care Home for the Elderly company in the head office. Our Exec team didn’t get into any kind of planning until early March - nobody was really prepared or planning appropriately for this situation.

Who’s saying I told you so?
It’s the government’s job to be on top of stuff like this, an absolute basic role of what a government should do, and if they aren’t doing that, then they should be questioned why, and they should answer. Ignorance isn’t an excuse.

I mean, how ridiculous is this attitude, unless you could do a better job then you can’t criticise? It renders this forum almost redundant for a start.

No ruling governing body in the world has prepared for this, we're just one of that number. I can see how we could have possibly prepared better but then I wouldn't have expected anything else. Just bemuses me that people seem surprised on we have dealt with this, this country has always been like this, whether it be NHS, armed forces, other emergency services. I have/ had friends in the military, Americans nickednamed us 'the borrowers', always on the cadge. Equipment falling to bits, a mate who worked on fighter jets told me the pilots would have been horrified if they knew what they did to keep planes in the air. This mismanagement isn't a new thing and is not party specific. Just symptomatic of how our country is run.

I was in Spain end of February beginning of March. They were already locking down then. I was fortunate to get a flight out.

Slightly off topic but is the German testing figures a little like our home attendance figures, 14 000+ most home games yet those in attendance know its 10,000 at best.
We do look to have been slow off the mark with both testing and frontline PPE plus lack of ventilators etc but so were most other countries, it looks like the only countries that were up to the job were Communist countries and are we taking what they tell the rest of the world seriously.
Let's not forget where this virus originated from and how they tried to suppress the out break, do we really need to be jumping into bed with the likes of Huawei because they are world leaders in 5G, when many of our friends are telling us stay well away ?.

This is a lengthy read, but its an excellent data and science based view of where we are and how we could/should approach the coming weeks and months:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8183597/Health-Secretary-savaged-promise-100-000-coronavirus-tests-end-month.html

The media gunning for Hancock today. Still no anti body kits.

Another 2 weeks of this. Hancock and Boris need to deliver because the pressure is firmly on. We need some positivity and light at the end of this dark tunnel now.

On the positive side. This is good read about the Nightingale.

Looks, like Birmingham could have serious problems with the virus in the coming weeks and months.

The testing thing - whilst hugely important - isn't a massive factor in terms of saving lives in the short term. No one seems to be dying as a result of not being tested, or as a result of not being able to receive treatment. But it needs to be resolved quickly to ensure there are no impacts to overall NHS capacity. And the antibody test is also key to managing this thing in the long term, but you need to wait for 28 days before relying on a result anyway, so if we can scale up quickly then its a problem that can be fixed.

I wonder if Boris and Trump regret agreeing to these daily press conferences.

We need more testing to test the NHS, so people are dying short term because the NHS are mostly second guessing if they can work and help save lives. We need more testing so people know if they have it early enough and can start warning others.

The antibody tests are vital. We know what needs to be done but just not delivering and going far too slow.
