Makes logical sense, but do you think the police will want to risk inconviencing or upsetting the locals. Not a chance

Like a lot of situations these days where thousands of people could be inconvenienced because of 1 or 2 planks...

    Look sensible by far!

The club investigated this a few years but were put off by the enormous cost of having to submit a highway closure proposal with no gurantee that it would be approved by the council.

No doubt it will be done after an 'incident', lessons will be learned and plans put in place to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I agree. I hope something like that never happens but it's only a matter of time imo.

And that's why I'd encourage anybody who witnesses a close call to let both the club and the police know about it asap.

I saw it like may others but have no confidence whatsoever that anything would come of it. Shutting the road wouldn't be guarantee of no future problems but pretty much every incident i've seen over the years has been vehicles using Midland Road/Thorncliffe Road as a rat run to bypass the traffic lights and shutting the road as Loyal says would stop this.

Is there any CCTV? I would assume that there may well be around the ground for ‘Crowd management purposes’. That may also catch the incident and it could then be presented to the Police/Council.

Nothing stopping members on here who live in Bradford, writing to their councillors and raising it as a serious H&S issue.

As with all this type of thing even if the club applied I don’t think it would be agreed as there is probably no official history of most of the incidents as people don’t bother reporting them. As there is no official record of them, in the eyes of the council when making the decision they didnt happen

The council would then ban all parking on Midland Road.

Given all the concerns in this thread and earlier similar incidents, I got in touch with Ryan Sparks.
He told me that, “we are aware of the reported incident and are working with West Yorkshire Police in their investigation, while looking at ways in which we can make the area safer, in order to avoid any further incidents”.

Shut the road for 30 minutes, job done. They can have that advice for free.

At least someone’s actually taken some action. But unfortunately I can’t see much happening unless there is a serious incident, which is terrible to say. I agree with @Nottsy@Nottsy that the person obviously had no intention of harming anyone or they simply would have it’d be easy to do if the intent was there. But that doesn’t stop them being morons, everyone knows that at any sporting event in the world or any other event that has 1000’s people there will be human traffic outside once it’s finished, there aren’t many places where there’s enough room for everyone to simply walk on the pavement.

Even with no intent one day one of these idiots will lose control and cost innocent people their lives, I’ve seen grown men confident drivers lose control before, and that’s all it would take. All because someone is showing off, trying to intimidate people or just in a rush when a major sporting event is on. Whatever the reason all it takes is a child to run out into the road, or them lose control or something like break failure and that’s it.

I hope you reported the incident @Park bantam@Park bantam as you were quick to make a thread about it?

Hang on, so you want the police to do something about it but you don't want to report it despite having a description of the people and the car and now the car registration.

If something happens again you're complicit. Doesn't take much to tell them what you know. Next time it could be you (or worse) getting knocked over.

It's not just as simple as that, someone has to foot the bill of of closing off every road including all side roads and as police don't really do road closures for football matches other than temporary ones for away fans to get away or bubble travel it would rest on us to foot the bill which would involve paying an agency and if you are only using them for 30 minutes then i doubt they'll get people to work half an hour shift. Also if you would then have to make all local residents that will be affected by this aware and most likely they would raise an objection then it costs loads get the permission needed. Also if parking was still allowed on Midland Road then you'd need new clear signage to make sure people are aware they can't move their car for 30 minutes as away fans will park on there which will be unaware of the restrictions.

It would help if parking was allowed only on one side of Midland road which would give more room for fans to disperse quicker and easier

Same issues were raised years ago via the Supporters Board. Club, Police & Council did nothing then & nothing will happen now. Next time it happens someone will get seriously hurt be it a fan or the driver. Council will then ban parking on Midland Rd. as it will be the fans fault, not the local community.

The Council also need to get to grips with the parking on pavement on Manningham Lane. Fans have to walk on the road to get round. I complained last year, I received an insipid reply, along the lines that parking attendants will book anybody who is found parking on the pavement!
