If Connolly does go, though, it would free up a loan space, especially if he was replaced with the lad from Swindon in an exchange for Doyle.....which then allows us to bring in Grigg until the end of the season.......

At least Connolly tries a bit which is much more than can be said of quite a few players in our squad.

And he got the biggest cheer of the night (apart from the goal of course) chasing their goalie down and getting us a corner.

 

I would like to use some of the freed money to keep Connolly permanently.
Yes I agree his crossing so far is not the best and I don’t think he is going to be a goal scorer
But he close to being the quickest player I have seen in a city shirt he has decent control at pace and a big heart.
He is still new to league level and can be coached to improve on things like crossing I thought the free role he had yesterday suited him

Oh for you info I rate Cooke, Devitt, Donaldson in our squad. AOC has done well considering how poor he was last season. The rest I lose no sleep over.

Hes the worst example of "winger" that I have seen in a City shirt in 40+ years ? He's running around waving his arms granted but theres scant if any proper wing play happening ?

you obviously never had to experience the likes of Joe Colbeck, Tommy Black and the Scott Neilson's of this world.

 

Connelly is a strange one. He gets man of the match for simply putting in more effort than anyone else, and geeing up the crowd a lot. His biggest attributes are his work rate and passion. But other than his pace which isn’t that useful if there’s nothing at the end of it, he doesn’t have much. That said his best football skill might actually be his tackling, he’s surprisingly good at it maybe he should reinvent himself as a full back.

At lunch time PP said it sounds like Grigg is staying as it stands. Had L2 bids but none that the club or player are entertaining. Sounds like he wont be leaving Sunderland unless it's to the Championship as they dont want him to go to another L1 team and he wont leave to L2. Wigan rumored to want him back.

Colbeck I've just shuddered to my core. Appalling player. His first touch was nothing short of comical.

 

Think he's provided 2 assists all season.
