One of the best things to come out of last night was that Chuka Umunna and Anna Sudbury were shown the door.

I’ll stand by what I said, in that this election was definitely not about kicking the Labour Party on Brexit. Nor was it a vindication of the Conservative Party’s Brexit deal.

Labour’s vote share was down everywhere, and there’s almost no correlation on whether that constituency was more leave or remain. It just doesn’t hold up that this wasn’t a total decimation of a historically unpopular leader. The big question marks are why this didn’t happen in 2017. It can’t just be that May was a bit naff on the campaign trail, surely.

Corbyn needs to hang on to the leadership and take full ownership for the report on antisemitism from the EHRC before standing down for a proper leadership contest. Forcing the issue now would do nothing but repeat every single mistake from the 2016 leadership election, and handing power to the Corbyn led NEC would be daft.

One of the answers is that in 2017 Corbyn was new to the electorate, this coupled with a dreadful Tory campaign by May,
I think the more people have learnt about Corbyn the less they liked or trusted him and decided not to vote for him

You think back and in the cold light of day, this feels like a completely obvious outcome. There were many things to cling to in order to pretend that it wouldn’t, but in the end it was always going to be just that.

The silver lining in this, if you can call it that, is that at least Labour can truly take a step back and say ‘this is on you’. They’ll have time to get their house in order, potentially form alliances and become a viable proposition again.

If Labour don't remove Corbyn and his cronies and remove Momentum from pulling the party in their direction then they have learnt absolutely nothing last night. There is possibly only one or two of that front bench that could do the job. Thornberry, Long-Bailey, Burgon, McDonnell, Abbott, etc not being one of those two.

They made a huge error ( by the unions ) not electing David Milliband as leader who I believe would have won and still be PM now, Have they the sense to bring him back? I doubt it as I listened to the Momentum Leader and got the impression they wanted a Corbyn Version 2

When put on the spot last night someone from the Labour party said, Labour did well in the 2017 election what's changed, I nearly choked on my Horlicks, what's change if you care to acknowledge it, is that 17,000,000 leave voters have had the piss taken out of them, three years of Labour voting down every option that was put before them, I bet they wish they'd taken May's deal, this Brexit deal is far from over.

That is going to be the hard part making sure Momentum don't dictate the agenda, that wont be easy.
Richard Burgon was his usual self last night when interviewed by Andrew Neil he would not give an answer so Neil cut him off.

Not being funny but I cannot think of one single Labour contender that would be any more acceptable than the ones that have just being brought down to Earth...

I wish I had your confidence!

I suspect Corbyn and McDonnell will both stay on for a short period of 'reflection' whilst they and the Corbyn inner cabal put in place the processes which will position a Corbyn or even Corbyn-lite candidate as his successor. Whether that's Long-Bailey or Angela Raynor or even Richard Burgon, it won't solve the fundamental issue that Labour has drifted too far to the left already and if they are to be regarded as a serious political party in the future, a Corbyn disciple is the last thing they need. They have to regain the centre ground as Blair did and whilst ever the likes of Andrey Murray, Seumas Milne, Jon Lansmann, Carrie Murphy, Len McCluskey etc have any influence, that will never happen.

Not a bad effort by the Tories nearly toppling a 16,000+ majority in Yvette Coopers Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford constituency Yvette Cooper won a majority of 1,276, with 18,297 votes to Conservative Andrew Lee's 17,021.
If that isn't a wake up call Yvette and the Labour party I don't know what is.

They should have taken that step back before they appointed Corbyn. Nobody at all was really surprised at last nights outcome, it was utterly predictable that Corbyns past would catch up with him. Labours vote was down drastically in traditional heartlands like Barnsley, alarm bells have been ringing for a while now. maybe its time for labour to distance themselves from social media luvvies of the likes of Owen Jones, Paul mason and Aaron Bastani and start listening to the real people that matter, their prospective audience.

Cooper, another part of the poison that labour needs to eradicate for it to be able to move forward. Honestly the party is more toxic than Chernobyl.

I felt sorry to see Caroline Flint losing her seat, she was caught between a rock and a hard place, tow the party line or serve your constituents wishes.

There were plenty of press outlets that backed Corbyn and tried to give Johnson a rough ride, that's the nature of Britain's media. We even see it in football when major tournaments roll around.

What doesn't lie though are the live interviews and I'm not sure anyone could argue that Corbyn didn't do himself as much damage in these than a newspaper story could ever do.
