At least at Swindon he is taking points off everyone else and can not play against us

After we've played Newport on 7th December we have played 7 out of the top 8, as yet we haven't looked anything like a promotion side even though we've accrued a good points return for games played, get our injured players back and possibly bring Doyle back we should have a good second half of the season.
No guarantees but so far fans reaction to signing Donaldson and Vaughan for the experience and goals return have not materialised I'm as guilty as the rest in believing both would be well up League twos top scorers.

no brainer to recall Doyle if we can. Outrageous we are part paying wages and he is on 13 goals already.

If we had takers for our players in January, I would happily allow Anderson, McCartan, Gibson and Patrick to go. Could only see any interest in McCartan though to be honest

unfortunately there didn’t seem to be any interest close season and none of them have really done anything to attract anyone

He played as a striker in his first season with us and was poor. Interesting what you say about our current strikers, if we loaned them out and they did what Doyle was doing would you change your mind to they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread?

We are sitting nicely in the top six which nobody would have predicted at the end of last season we have missed a few but goals have been coming and our general play has been much better with Donaldson leading line much better than Doyle (I know Doyle was uncomfortable there) so I doubt we would have done any better with Doyle in the team

Even though he was shite last year, and let’s not change history he was. Like with most footballers he’s obviously a confidence players and he’s banging them in for fun, it’d be a mistake not to bring him back in January if we have that option.

Our current strikers are shite in a decent team. Doyle was shite in a shite team. But scored goals....

He is better than the other two and his record over the last few years is proof.

They’re shite in what way? Do you go to games am any think of to many sitters Vaughan has missed, to say we’re this decent team we hardly put them in a plate for Vaughan and wouldn’t for Doyle so you’re left with the same issues. Donaldson misses sitters but his hold up play has clearly been missed when he hasn’t played, anyone with a brain can see that.

I’d still bring him back in January though, we can’t afford to have loaned someone out to a divisional rival and have them end on 25+ which he looks on course to do easily.

Doyle alongside Donaldson or Vaughan in a 4-4-2 would surely work and bring the goals I would have thought

Doyle had to work alongside Brunker or Miller last season, enough said

Didn’t know Yates was a loanee as well, love to see both get recalled could ruin one of our rivals season in one day.
That said draw our game in hand and we’re above them in spite of their far more successful forwards, and we looked a class above them when we beat them.

He wasnt shite though was he?! The team was abysmal yet he was our top scorer (was it with 10?) by a fair way. Hes a finisher. Hes done it at a lot of clubs. With decent supply facing goal in the final 3rd as opposed to back to goal trying to win aimless punts in the second 3rd hed have scored more. Now in the lower leagues hed have scored even more. He was practically playing in midfield for us this season. Wtf?! I agree we should bring him back, but in all fairness we should have never let him go! In a team playing to his strengths with him as the spear head we see the results. Im aware of FFP but if we can manage it and if Rupp has any aspiration to succeed he should MAKE it happen and bring him back and secure him on a longer deal with this 3rd year extension! GB clearly never wanted him to go!

It is possible to be shite in a shite team, even his most avid supporter in here has stated it. It wasn’t his fault we ended bottom, but he was part of it same as anyone else on the playing side. If he was doing crap with Swindon, people would be saying he was terrible last season, let’s not reinvent history.
This year he’s obviously got his mojo back, so we should definitely get him back but it doesn’t change last season, just like Josh Wright scoring goals doesn’t.

Vaughan might score just as many in the Swindon team. Why not? He has similar form at this level.

I don't see an awful lot of difference, other than Vaughan is a good all round player who works hard.

Rupp would either a) have to get rid or Connolly, Oteh and possibly another loan (did Doyle allow us to bring in 3?) or b) simply write off Doyle's wages from his own money.

Let's not pretend League One is worth chasing financially - unless you're trying to sell the club...

    It's an interesting dilemma.

Another dilemma in January is Callum Cooke. Do we try and bring him in on a permanent deal to ward off any other potential interest?. If so, I presume that will cost us more in wages

As much as I would like to see Doyle recalled, I think securing Cooke on a permanent deal appeals even more.
