I have just seen his stats, in 10 seasons as a professional footballer he has scored 80 goals. He has only scored more in three seasons, one of those was last season and he scored 32 for Chesterfield in two seasons. Averaging 8 a season, is hardly a prolific.

That’s a player devoid of any confidence or form. If you were constantly played out of position and then reading a barrage of abuse on social media, would that make you play at your best?

Not just out of position, there is this ridiculous rhetoric that somehow he's the only player low on confidence, and therefore unable to perform. Sure I've read quite a few times that we have supposedly derailed him this way.

We should be more accepting because he might be feeling a bit down because he's been utter crap, and so have the team. Yeah, okay. Not being able to control a football is because he's low on confidence.

    Nope, just nope.

Don't forget as well that 11 of his goals were in Scotland so they don't count ;)

In mitigation, many seasons were in the Championship, where he was obviously abysmal.

What I would say is that Doyle's history tells us that when he's scoring, he's fine.

When Doyle is struggling, he is statistically useless.

Clearly Doyle was struggling here, and since he has never turned bad form around at ANY club, I don't see any argument for perservering with him at the end of his career.

He was turning in midfield with the ball in space yet getting caught with the ball after 5 yards running. One of the slowest forwards i've ever seen play for us.

Without replacing Doyle with someone better, it’s a long season at the arse end or Division Four. Patrick, McCarten, Vaughan and Clayton in front of a midfield of Palmer, Akpan, Anderson and Scannell are scoring the square root of not a lot.

If you’re going to quote stats, can you please list them down for us, eg how many goals in how many L2 games etc. Going over 10 seasons when many of them were either in the Championship, Scottish or Irish leagues is a tad unfair.

BTW, it’s 127 goals in 10yrs (or put another way) 127 in 418 appearances

It doesn't look great, but remember that half of those players were last season's signings - five if you include Anderson.

We just haven't been able to do ENOUGH transfer business to adequately improve the team.

The transfer business itself is fine, though, things have improved - just not anywhere near enough to be considered title challengers.

    7th maybe.

tell ya what, if I was on circa £5k a week, one thing I wouldn’t be low on is confidence. Don’t know they’re born

He wasn't any lower on confidence than any other player, he was just crap, that's all.

A lot of the other players were also low on confidence and their form showed. O’Donnell is one perfect example and I’d argue Caddis, Ball and Payne were the same. All started really well but when they left, they were a shadow of their previous selves.

So the head to head stats:

    Doyle 300 appearances & 93 goals https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=55196

    Hanson 404 appearances & 98 goals https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=51744

I guess the big thing is that although they are of a similar age, for whatever reason Doyle has 25% less appearances.

Personally I would have Hanson over Doyle any day! Remember Doyle is a penalty taker whilst Hanson always left that to others. I think his figures last season were very bolstered by that fact!

I'd have Hanson any day, also, if only because Hanson did not struggle out of position (ie, wide left), and because he was a handful - whereas Doyle is a guaranteed easy tackle or header for any defender in the football league.

I'd be interested to see any stats on how Hanson's partners have fared, as opposed to Doyle's partners.

Did Doyle ever help any other player out, no matter how good?

    I sincerely doubt it.

What a bit of good news that is hopefully this means there is some incoming players. My mate said just watch he'll go score hatfulls for them. I don't care as long as I don't have to watch him run underneath a bouncing ball anymore. I'm not going to knock his effort at all but he was getting nowhere here. Good luck to him we all move on thank god.
